American Defers Delivery of 787’s
American announced in its 3Q23 10-Q that it is pushing back delivery of new 787-9’s. Below is the new delayed delivery schedule.
7 in 2024
4 in 2025
4 in 2026
5 in 2027
10 remaining delivered from 2028 and beyond.
Does anyone know the original delivery schedule?
How old are American’s oldest 777’s?

American is the only legacy with fewer widebodies now than start of COVID.

But I was attacked and bascially called retarded in an earlier thread because I made the correct observation that these are not growth airplanes but replacements a/c for a/c that were parked 4 years ago.

I think the flaw in your thinking is that we have pilots sitting around to crew the retired planes. It's been so long since those were retired that the pilot group is sized for current fleet. New planes would be growth from a head count standpoint.

But it shows how reluctant AA is to grow the WB back to pre pandemic levels during the so-called "best times" in aviation history. I still bet my prediciton that those 10 787s that are slated to come "beyond 2028" will be replacements for some 777s and that the ULCC sheisters in charge already know this. Also the 321xlr is not a WB replacement and shouldn't be considered that, WB flying is a different type of Airline experience that segregates the crappy multileg trips with short overnight type flying from the sheltered one there and one back stuff. We all know those XLR flights will be part of trips that will include domestic flying, don't believe me, Just look at some of the airbus flying that includes Bogota, Lima or Hawaii.

the XLRs reportedly will be configured with a Flagship seating section: https://www.aircraftinteriorsinternational.com/news/airline-news/american-airlines-fleet-overhaul.html
The Airbus A321XLR aircraft will feature 20 Flagship Suites and 12 premium economy seats. Those Premium Economy seats are also new, and custom-designed for more privacy than the current model, with double the amount of in-seat storage space.
It is what it is. If today's airline applicant is applying to airlines using a 1975 Pan Am brochure as their mental model, they are wrong.
Merry Christmas

XLRs are not going domestic multi leg. They'll maybe do the BOS-LAX, JFK-LAX, MIA-SEA, and DFW-ANC routes.
Other than that, they're going to be CA/FO/FB crewed out of PHL going to Shannon, Edinburgh, Reykjavik, Keflavik, Amsterdam, Lisbon; just to name some from the rumint list.

You're lucky. It seems that 50% of the pax I bump into want me to admit the earth is flat. I know we're almost into 2024 but the future scares me (am I allowed to say this any more?).
