This was unheard of back in the day and would lead to termination well short of 100 hours. But, with DEI, the standards have been decreased.

Desperate airlines have always looked the other way. American must have a staffing problem if they've got to give extra extra chances.

All the majors have adopted a kinder more gentle approach to terminations in training. Delta does not blink a eye at 50 hours of OE when once exceeding the requirement might find you seeking other employment. Exceeding FAR required OE was a extremely rare event. Now it's the norm.

The pilot who did something epically stupid and caused me to have 35 surgeries had 18 failed training events when I could have been dismissed (Navy) with 3 and more than 6 was unheard of.
Thank god they just went full bore moron with just me and not a helicopter full of Marines.

You should not be fired solely for a bad landing. If however you have a history of checkride failures, needed extra sims and IOE then termination might be the best for everyone involved. Train to proficiency does nothing to offset basic potential or lack of in a individual.
If however this was a one off and the person involved has a solid training record they should certainly be retained.
