A fair amount of all nighters coming back most of the time. 3x? But some guys make them work. I used to ***** about the early AM JFK-LAX, midday 10+ hr break, and all nighter home. CP Bob S. "before you complain look who's bidding them?" Damn...they went more senior than you'd expect. Talked with a senior FO flying them - I miss that day with my son. Do my long training runs (marathon buildup) in LAX where the wx's better, grab a 15-20 minute nap of Kansas (you're not missing anything over Kansas at night at FL350-370. ;-) ) I'm home to take him to school, sleep while he's at school, and pick him up from school. Seven or 8 trips a month, I miss 7-8 days of his life and have 22-24 days with him. I can't beat that."

Best domestic flying in the business. Senior trips are awesome. Late afternoon departure, grab couple of beers, nap, grab a breakfast 'bomb' (burrito...you'll understand about 2/3's of the way through it), get home in time for a normal/late dinner. What's not to like about it? Obviously those go senior.

For a minute I had been thinking throwing in a MBE bid for LGA, but if the bulk is in LGA (which was my initial assumption anyway) and I can only reasonably commute to 2 out of 3 airports, I’ll probably just stick with Boston as planned and see if I can get ORD DFW or LAX (multi base but it’s so close to home).

Any guesses if this is indicative of the base, or is this just a snapshot of one bid packet? I’m 737D if that matters. Still in training. Picked BOS on a whim just because I only wanted to cover 1 instead of 3 airports, and no nonstops to LGA for a commute.

Reviving this thread for this question. Heading to new hire class next month and I'm stoked. Anyway, as for now I will be a commuter. Gross, I know. My wife has put up with my career for years and now and our next move is to CLT to be closer to her family (probably not for at least 3 or 4 years though). We live northeast of CVG and NY is the easiest commute although CLT has 6 flights a day so not awful. However, I know LGA is junior so that's what I'm expecting. Until we make the move, does the airplane in NYC matter when it comes to QOL? I know commuting to reserve is a bad decision, but it is what it is for now and I'll make it work. Would I have similar QOL on the 320 vs the 73? Are the trips comparable on the 320 vs the 73 (want to maximize my days off so are trips higher credit on one airplane vs the other)? Would I hold a line quicker on one airplane vs the other?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I look forward to joining you all soon.
