Quote: There is absolutely no reason to think this leadership team has any interest in an additional widebody order - even to replace our old-ass 777-200s.
They’re wise beyond their years.

78’s/ and XLR’s have been delayed plenty long enough for them to want to punch a baby.

Scot, Spirit, Southwest built a big ole business plan ordering planes that has them pulling there hair out.

The pilots are the ones still stupid enough to smile at a large order.

American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) is reported to be nearing a deal for about 100 narrowbody jets, a mix of A321neo and B737-8s, while also considering placing an order for the A350 as a replacement for the B777-200ER.

American Airlines is working on an order for new planes. However it may not just be for narrowbody planes as I and others have reported.

There’s discussion of a widebody order potentially as well – even for the Airbus A350 as a replacement for aging Boeing 777-200s.
Thanks.

The first link you mentioned repeatedly cites itself. The only external “citation” is to Bloomberg, and the only comment I can find from Bloomberg regarding an airplane order was from this twitter post, which doesn’t say anything about widebodies.

The second link cites an anonymous twitter account. This account seems to have been the genesis of the “more wide bodies for AA” gossip.

Both these sources are unreliable.

This rumor about AAL considering expanding its widebody fleet, specifically with the addition of another fleet type, has been thoroughly debunked numerous times. All referenced articles cite a Twitter rumor regarding the A350 (JonNYC), which was later retracted. There is no indication whatsoever that American Airlines is interested in purchasing or expanding its widebody fleet beyond its current plans.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

Just look at JonNYC non-airline related tweets and it tells you everything you need to know about what a nutjob he is.

Last week’s PTT pretty much said the current 787 order book is it for WB through 2030 and there are no plans to retire any aircraft during that time.

I know you didn't mean any harm, but VftW is as bottom of the barrel as it gets in terms of sources. The guy is a frequent flyer trying to pose as an industry insider from rumors he's cobbled together from APC and A-Net.

"American will never get Airbus WB's. They don't even have sims."

Which means zero. If the CEO and CFO can save a nickel on a 350 versus a 787 purchase, they will issue marching orders downrange to make it happen.

and the sims will come

as I have learned in the airline industry, the word "never" is almost, uh, never, set in stone
