I know these web sites tend to attract the negative views and its a lot easier to lob a grenade than say something positive. But I do hope that this merger will go as smoothly as possible. AA pilots have been hammered with no growth for over a decade and they gave up a lot in return for very little from management. Us Air pilots went through two Ch 11s and they have been flying for RJ wages. AWA pilots just want to see some benefits from the mergers we have been involved in. We all have an interest in seeing this work out.
The merger will be good for the industry because Parker has said there will be mainline growth. Under other plans outsourced lift would have been the way the airline increased passengers. This way we see growth in house. Having the industry consolidate will lead to capacity discipline and profits for the airlines. Profits are good, that's what leads to pilots making more money. More money leads to happier ex wives.
I don't care if Tomahawk is management. What he said will be key in getting this deal to work. Welcoming each other and looking for the best from all sides will result in a better life for all of us. We have gone through probably the worst example of a merger over the last 7 years, lets hope everyone has learned from that fiasco. I'm not going to hold my breath but today I will be optimistic.

Many folks "flew" helicopters but got out of them as soon as possible, seeking a FW transition or even opting for a desk job, as many of my fellow RLO's did. Actually flying on a regular, nearly daily basis was no way for a commissioned officer to advance, at least in the Army, prior to the advent of the Aviation Branch in 1982. It was probably the same in the sea services, especially for helicopter pilots. Not many have a RW and FW jet ATP, and ever earned a living as a civilian RW pilot. It is a very small fraternity. Some of these guys who continue to snap to attention in their civilian lives never left the military mentality behind and cannot seem to grasp the concept that those who are now in charge are not their friends and will screw them to advance themselves at the first opportunity.
