This rest must encompass three physiological nights’ rest based on local time.

For the AA guys NYC this is good, for MIA pilots this is no help. For us it's Latitude not longitude. For MIA LHR 777 good!

A 4 day MIA EZE trip is 57:15 time away form base.
MIA 25 degrees N. EZE (Buenos Aires) 34 degrees S. = 59 degrees

A 4 day MIA GRU (Sao paulo) 25 N. - 23 S.

NYC 40 N - EZE 34 S. Good. if latitude counts.

Oh and 168 divided by 24 is 7.

Occasionally we have 6 day LHR trips from MIA-LHR-JFK-LHR-MIA

and DFW and JFK and ORD do the same to LHR as well as regular 3 day Europe trips.

Most trips south form MIA are 3 and 4 day trips returning at 4-6am on the 4th day.

But I like how you guys are thinking and on the next JBCA I hope we get limits like this or Better!

Yeah, the theater restrictions in FAR 117 are based only on LONGITUDE, not latitude. It's designed to account for time change. South America is a long flight, but the time change is less than a transcon. So it doesn't help with multiple back-to-backs on reserve. Only a JCBA provision will do something about that at this point.

I do think there is a pretty strong feeling on both sides of the AA/US merge that using the US system, with some tweaks and improvements, is the way to go.

Of interest to me is the fact that the US (East) contract doesn't allow trips over four days (i.e. 6 day Europe trips). I suspect that will change soon. I'm not opposed personally to doing them ... two trips and you've got your month taken care of.

Over at UCAL.. our Rocket Scientists (67% of them, at least) voted in a JCBA that now allows for 8 day trips!

I'm surprised not longer with the NRT operation... we do up to 13 at DL... That's always coupled with Japan flying in and out.
