I am all for free market no slots any merger but if the goverment is going to make an airport slot controlled they should not let one airline have a super majority of slots.
So if I wanted to start an airline with a hub in JFK should jetBlue be forced to give me the slots and facilities? It's still slot controlled isn't it?

"Alcoholism aside, Parker is an incredibly intelligent person. "

Interesting that you could make a diagnosis that someone you have probably never met, much less examined, suffers from alcoholism. Where did you graduate med school and why are you flying a 190, doctor?

I do not recall saying that Parker is an alcoholic or that he suffered from alcoholism.

Alcoholism is a broad term for problems with alcohol and I was referring it to how it affected his social standing—not his health.

I do not fly an e190.

Hmm, if memory serves the only time in US history where the airlines functioned well and provided their employees with fair commensurate salaries, quality of life and their passengers with quality service was when the industry was regulated.

It kills me when I see folks arguing for the side of big business specific to the airline industry...because you know...that clearly has worked very well since de-regulation right.

Airlines have been turned into nothing more than bus lines in the sky, mass transit for the common man. The problem is that operational model is incompatible with the cost of running of an airline. The only way they can be profitable is to rape and pillage their employees salaries, benefits and lives, reduce the quality of their service and stay ahead in the "race to the bottom."

The industry needs to be re-regulated. That's the only thing that will fix the mess. But....it'll never happen and these asinine DOJ attempts to act like they really care are pointless at the end of the day. Blocking one transaction won't fix anything. The govt. is owned by big business. This merger will happen. Oddly, from my POV this merger will be good for the industry as much as it will be good for big business. I'm calling it a lucky exception....

I support it..GO DOUGIE! I'll continue hating you later....

You know what. I take that back I did not use "" in my post.
I was wrong and I can see how you would think I said it.

With this government? Probably! What did Delta give up when it merged with NW? Did they give up any JFK slots? ORD?
