Default AA Pilots Denied Jumpseat

"Fellow CLT Pilots,

We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred a few days ago regarding one of our CLT Captains denying jumpseat requests from three different American Airlines pilots. When he was contacted by your Reps to inquire about the incident he hung up the phone. When the Jumpseat Committee Vice Chair reminded him that many of our pilots use the jumpseat to commute to work his reply was that they should move to their domicile as he did. He then hung up the phone. This Captain's immature actions has put our jumpseat privileges with American Airlines in jeopardy. In addition, we are trying to have our Jumpseat policy implemented with the New American and this does not help our efforts.

We knew going into this merger that there would be disagreements regarding seniority. There is a process to handle this and it will work out in the end. There are three places that we should never let politics interfere: Safety, Training and the Jumpseat! Luckily, our Jumpseat Committee has a good relationship with the APA Jumpseat Committee and has conveyed that this rouge pilot does not reflect our feelings.

If you see an American Pilot please take the time to introduce yourself and apologize on behalf of the US Airways pilots for this senseless selfish display of power and let them know they are welcome on our flight decks."

This captain is an idiot.
He evidently has real personal issues.
Not only with AA pilots but US Air pilots and I would bet many other groups of people.
Apologies to AA and anyone else who tries to ride this guy's jumpseat.

Come on, please tell me the person who wrote this is not educated...

Seriously tho, tough story. No need for personal vendettas against others.

Maybe it was the authors way of inconspicuously identifying the captain. I'm guessing he is of Native American descent. . All joking aside, I have jump seated on US Air many times, and have always been treated great, I hope this one bad apple corrects his behavior.

Wow. Just…wow. This is embarrassing as a US Airways pilot. Please, AA guys, know that this is not the norm. Had I been the F/O with this captain (doesn't deserve the capital "C"), we would have had words. Every single person I've flown with or jumpseated with, East or West, has welcomed me or any other jumpseater into the cockpit. I think of all the airlines, we seem to treat our jumpseaters the best. This just saddens me that we have people like this out there. Lake Norman isn't the center of the universe. Some of us live elsewhere.

I just jumped on American metal today from Dfw. Gate agent told me Captain said I could only go down if my id had a "P" number in the back. When I got down to the plane, the captain and Fo told me all about this jack wagon.

Sounds like its strictly an AA pilot issue with this guy as opposed to a West or another carrier. I doubt a few loose cannons on either side will change the practices of 99% of the captains out there re: jumpseating. In thinking about the poor guy, he must carry a lot of anger around and the primary victim in this situation isn't likely aware that it is himself. Some inconvenience for the 3 AA guys, but this captain is paying a higher price internally by lugging around that baggageful of rage.

Have to give the J/S committee credit for handling it properly though.

No worries guys, isolated incident and certainly has happened on our side (and all other airlines) in the past as well. Kudos to usapa j/s comittee for handling it well. See you guys on our j/s with a smile and (hopefully) a seat up front if there's room.
