I know this merger is excellent for my career, but being involved with what I see over there makes me worry about how much I'll actually continue to enjoy flying with the people I work with.

What you'll quickly come to find is that those who frequent C&R and thump their chests are the nicest, most laid back folks that are an absolute pleasure to fly with on a trip. Well, 99.9% of them anyway.
You'll also find that hitting AA pilots with any kind of change is akin to pulling up the remains of the Titanic and getting her to sail once again.
