They still do that today! You have to beg to get a roll, dessert or on some international flights, actual silverware with a napkin.

Same here.

There're very few of the meals I can do more than pick at anymore, on account of it's been the same damn things for years. Mostly just the cold breakfast. But not the granola after seeing a beetle crawl out of it on a flight from Belo to MIA a few years ago.
