Furlough Return Question

Initially class and pilot recalls were going to be fast and furious in an attempt to get everyone back on the property prior to the Seniority List Integration (SLI). That seems to have changed a bit, they no longer appear to be in a rush. My guess is that the implementation of preferential bidding has a lot to do with it. Pref bidding is more efficient requiring less pilots. Pref bidding really favors those senior in their bid class and category, which means the schools house is filling up with guys jockeying for position under then new system.
With that being said, AA plans no new hires for the remainder of 2016 which tells me indirectly that it will take the next 6 months to get all of these guys back on the real estate.
Hope that helps

Totally understand what you are saying. I really think a lot will say they are coming back then no-show. I just wonder why somebody would come back now vice a year or so ago when they had the LOS thing in their favor.

SLI, if you are accumulating seniority somewhere, you want to know what your number will be before you come back, if possible.
Making more money at their current jobs, in my case and I assume its the same for others. I have made more money in the time since they offered the package, then what they were offering. Keep in mind with no LOS most of us are coming back to anything from 3rd year to probation pay VS 12 year pay at other places.
They didn't give enough notice with their package.
LOS will come back, once everyone is back. The company wanted a quantifiable number for the cost associated with LOS and the union didn't have the balls to say just put it them in an escrow account and you can keep the unused monies from the non returning pilots.
With Parker demanding the SLI ASAP (what we got for it I don't know) getting the Letter T guys back is no longer a priority. With the possibility of lots of no shows for the next six months and the implementation of Preff bidding on the AA side their is no longer a rush. They still have Eagle flow through, voluntary Letter T guys coming back and remember that the company still has the ability to hire to the USAir side in large numbers, from here on in a number is a number.

That's something I hadn't thought of regarding the delta between what the LOS would have made you vice what you got at your current place. I guess I hadn't thought of that one year not being that much of a windfall. However what would be the draw of coming back to AA at yr 1,2,or 3 pay vice being at the top of the pay scale somewhere else? Not trying to incite anything here, just honestly curious. Thanks for getting this back on track.

The approx value, until reaching 12th year pay, of the LOS was about $8000 for a 10 yr LOS stand in stead furloughee.
The approx value for a new hire was about $72,000.
For a guy on probationary pay it was an immediate hourly increase of $58/hr. That's a significant easying of first year probationary pay difficulties.
The guys are making their assessment and will do what they think is best for them and their families.

Concur w/ g4g5.
Only thing I'd question is the comment about LOS being addressed somewhere down the road. Too many other "distractions" with the pilot group - PBS, SLI, etc. With each passing day, the whole furlough thing fades from the collective memory...
By the time the next contract talks come around..."What? We had guys on furlough?"
