You guys can join as long as you bring the APA IT platform.

ALPA's IT that they provide to the MEC and LEC are so 1998!
Behold! UAL Pilots > UAL MEC Public Page ...and it only gets worse once you log-in! This is what's provided by Herndon, and while you'd think that it'd be easy for an MEC to just go it alone and provide it's own resources, you'd be wrong. ALPA National owns the membership database, and won't share that database to enable "other" technology platforms. So if you want accurate and up-to-date website log-ins for union membership, you have to use ALPA IT.
There are some benefits for pattern bargaining that come with a large national union, but, buyer beware. I think APA could force Herndon to get get it's house in order as a condition of merging, but it would take considerable effort to change the "this is the way we've always done it" mentality. The web site thing is just one example of many, but, considering the current APA demographic, I'm not telling you guys anything new.

Overall I'd be in favor of returning to ALPA, but I'm not without concerns. Would it be one more thing that divides us? How long would it take and would we be spooled up for section six? Would we have the same structure and just remain bogged down with different letterhead?
There was an interesting idea on C&R. I believe it was changing from base representation to seniority block representation. As I recall there would be one rep for a certain number of guys on the list, thereby greatly reducing the number of reps and blocking the ability of bases to block actions.
Any LAA guys want to chime in on this? Thoughts? Has it ever been tried?
Maybe we should try this before tossing the APA out completely?

ALPA MECs have the option of block representation. There are a few that do it that way.

But overall the quality has gone way up, not bad for having no hotel language.
