Masks?

APC routinely sees guys bi/ching about hats, about epaulets, about beards, about tattoos, about body piercings, about ties, about lanyards, about hair length, about leather jackets (both pro and con), H€||, about damn near everything, and you are going to give this guy grief for bi/tching about masks?

For the crap contract Atlas has, this person is considering coming here based on a mask policy that we may or may not have. The mask is what makes you want to leave the regionals. It’s laughable.

Those of us having been in the industry for awhile or at least watched it for a decade or 2 or 3 agree the mentality/intestinal fortitude or really the great gains in opportunities has changed significantly. Remember the days when those with airline aspirations waited for any call from any airline they applied too (at least 3 minimum). When asked which outfit they wanted to work for everyone would answer: “The first one that calls!”
*Now you can choose exactly where you want to live as first priority or jackets no jackets, hats no hats, international or domestic, faster upgrades, better benefits, better layovers, better hotels, better schedules, as mentioned before this list goes on and on. What a great time to be able to get what you want for the most part based on the current hiring demands, etc. and not just waiting for any call comparably speaking. Overall, if you can find a no mask airline go on with your bad self and build your best career path like Mr. Potato Head. Amazing opportunities, just saying - Good for y’all!
I wonder if there’s an airline that offers free gum out there, that’s always fun to watch when wearing a mask. At least it’s made chewing tobacco easier to conceal, so some have that going for them which is nice.

I was wondering if anyone could inform me of cargo airline mask policy and culture (culture being what most people actually do).
I want to know if people are having to wear masks walking thru the hangar, in the flight deck, in the Jumpseat and in training, particularly ground school. Trying to find a gig that requires significantly less mask wearing than 121 PAX.

Masks required with the cockpit door open to passengers on out pax airplane. Masks required with the L1 door open and accessible to handlers for cargo planes. Masks are required in terminals, on the way to the plane, etc.
As for mask culture, we're not as unanymous on here as we think. So I'm not going to talk about anyone breaking a policy, especially one that's politically charged. Personally I actually wear my mask when I am supposed to. Bear in mind I am a nerd, and I haul my britches up to my belly button every third sentence when I speak to somebody. Seriously.
I do wear the mask. Masks are here to stay, regardless of what you think of them. Passengers, handlers, loaders, flight attendants have cell phones.
If we feel oppressed by masks, search your feelings about pants. We mostly wear pants for fear of getting in trouble too. The same threat of cell phones exists for pants. If the rules were different 75% of us would be Donald Ducking it at work. We'd just bring seat covers in our flight bags. The world is an arbitrarily repressive place.

I'm not sure he's making a decision about a job based on masks.

The thing is, pants actually serve their intended purpose. In almost all scenarios aside from assless chaps, they prevent people from seeing things that they’d prefer not to see.
The data on masks casts major doubt on their efficacy, and at this point they’re basically being required on airplanes as a psychological tool to make the less astute among us “feel safe”. In reality, if you are really that scared of getting or spreading Covid, the last thing you should be doing is walking onto an airplane with two hundred other people who periodically remove their masks to eat and drink. Is it ever acceptable to briefly take off your pants on an airplane and then put them back on shortly after, pretending that the overall goal of pants-wearing has still been achieved? Pretending that this is an effective measure is about as sane as someone wearing the aforementioned assless chaps to work.

True. It is what it is. Perhaps go be a Bush pilot in Alaska, seriously. It may be the last bastion of freedom bud. I believe our industry is covered up for the most part which is unfortunate.
