Vote the Teamsters out. The USAir pilots voted ALPA off the property when Nicolau gave them the award they felt was too onerous. They started their in house Union, USAPA. That move effectively voided their Nicolau arbitrated decision. I am not offering any opinion on this, other than the fact that as the Nicolau Award at USAirways was an ALPA arbitration, once ALPA was voted off the property, the Nicolau Award was never able to be implemented. Once the merger with American came about, the seniority integration was re done with each group having a proposal, three seperate pilot groups- AA, LUS East, LUS West.

My point isn't to sling mud. (I'd wear some myself) My point is to say we need to be realistic and determined. We have a pathway forward. We don't need to despair. We need to attack, but we need to attack realistically.
When people despair, the country-club aspects of any organization, including this union prevail over rational voices. Now's the time to fight, even if it means making an enemy or six.

All the junior guys quitting would be totally appropriate. They get the poop sandwich under the circumstances, and they aren't in the country club. Then the senior guys' country club can meet management at a REAL country club and figure out how to continue to make all that money they make sure each other get.

I do believe he was not available as an ALPA arbitrator after that controversial decision.

Well, your guys definitely screwed up by picking this guy. Would you be comfortable riding in the back with a 94 year old guy up front at the controls? You have to retire at 65. And there is a guy 30 yrs older than that deciding a very complex arbitration about your career. Who made that pick? There are exceptions, but 94? Not worth the risk seeing some of his past decisions.

Only way out now is to de certify your bargaining agent. Then you escape the arbitration of your former bargaining agent. It's how the USAirways East pilots successfully evaded their Nicolau Award.

I get the sentiment, but everyone's not going to quit. That's just not going to happen regardless of whether it's a work action or not. We have committee chairs and higher that hold positions in training and standards despite BK resigning from his check-airman position (when he was still a line pilot). Many of these people are great, but there's a glaring conflict of interest in holding those positions. Over time these conflicts of interest will affect even the best of us.
