Until then, your only focus should be quickly building a quality resume.
Not sure what year your calendar reads, but I’m sitting here in 2020 watching the Legacies practically handing out jobs left and right to 23 year olds, with none of them having any PIC time...

What a difference a half decade makes.

Theyre not getting rid of the 73’s entirely. Just getting rid of the 734’s while 10 738’s go over to another carrier. There is nothing in writing for the five unspoken for 738’s coming to SAI, either. So, not getting rid of 73’s but definite downsizing on the 73 flying.

I'm not sure what your definition of "Hand out" is but I was in a reserve flying squadron and the only white males who got calls from Legacies had 1000 PIC. Everyone had 1000 PIC AND was an instructor until late 2018 when they started hiring guys with 1000 PIC who weren't quite instructors yet.

You can act like it doesn't matter if you want but unless you are a minority or the Chief Pilot's son don't expect a call without it.

NOTE... I'm not trying to start a different argument... Just stating the facts on what HR hired from places I've worked.

My calendar reads 2020 and I’m sitting here at a legacy watching who we hire. There are a few exceptions to the norm, but the overwhelming majority of people who are getting hired are high time captains from other 121 airlines, or career military pilots with plenty of qualifications. Those are the people that the company is handing out jobs left and right to.

Fair enough. My point was there’s far more kids getting hired into the legacies today with zero PIC time and just barely above minimums. Five years ago it was practically unheard of, now it appears to be routine. I know of a few that parked themselves at Spirit just barely long enough to get hired by Delta and United, with qualifications not even remotely close to what’s “recommended”, whatever that means.

I mean, how many Masters Degrees does it take to fly an Airbus, anyways?

I wouldn’t say that it’s routine, but a few really luck out. They always have.

As to the Masters, you don’t need one, but it does takes a 4 year degree to fly an Airbus at a legacy. They are really hung up on the degree. A 3,000 hour rj f/o with a degree stands a better chance of getting hired than a 15,000 hour 747 captain without one. It’s just what it is. If someone doesn’t want to meet the requirements, they shouldn’t complain about their outcome.

Again... I don't think you understand what the Legacies and the 2 big cargo carriers are really hiring.... Here are the cases I've seen...

1. Military Instructors and up
2. Regional Instructors and up
3. ACMI Captains with Boeing, MD, and Airbus Types or FOs who got their 1000 PIC at a Regional prior to coming
4. Diverse Resumes - NOT Instructors and up BUT with Maybe PIC in an MD and a Boeing (this was me...)
5. Minorities/Chief Pilot's kids - This is the only group that might not check the "1000 PIC" box but in all honesty even most of these hires check it.

All of these would have 1000 PIC with the exception of a small percentage of one group. All would have 4 year Degrees.

A master's degree is nice and might get you a stray point but it's just not what's putting you over the top. I don't have a Master's and if I had to guess most of the new hire class that I was in did not have it. All of them fit into one of the first 4 categories listed above. Some fit into multiple. I fit into two of them. Almost 3. If you want to get a call you need to beef up your resume in the ****pit.

I know for a fact you can be just a normal regional CA with no IP/LCA time and get called by the big 5. Plenty of people in that category getting calls and almost all have 500-1000 PIC. (1-2 year CAs)

Im at 1900TT finishing Captain IOE at the moment (was a mil R-ATP guy). I got the email for a 737 FO position 2 weeks ago but never replied. Today on the hotel van I see I have another email from Southern offering me the 777 if I wanted it.

There were a few getting a call out of my squadron like that at American. None at the other 3 or FedEx or UPS... None that I know of. My new hire class at FedEx had nobody with the resume you're describing.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. Your odds are small with a resume like that. I do think that IF you get to 1000 PIC that you will get a call though because the resumes that I listed have to be drying up. I don't think you have a shot camping out in the Right seat.
