Default 777 vs 747

Would someone be kind enough to describe the current difference in 777 vs 747 life at Atlas such as expand on the difference in work rotations. I'm told the 777 does more of a fixed route. Also does anyone have the latest info on Jr. basing for the triple? I understand ANC is 74 Jr. base. Thanks for your time.

CVG is the New Hire base for the 777. It looks like the junior FO in LAX is February 2023 and MIA is May 2023.

For rotations, the 777 is more “scheduled” with DHL and MSC. Less Ad Hoc style flying, and fewer changes once out on the line. That means bidding for days and destinations on the 777 is possible. If you bid for destinations on the 747, then you need to prepare to be disappointed.

The bunks and supernumerary seats are unquestionably better in the 747. These considerations aren’t as petty as one might think.

there are a few 747s, like the BCF, that have the bunks like the 77. Can’t remember which tails have the bunks access from the cockpit…

The seats are same or better in the 777's (they are the same as -8's) but the layout sucks. But I'd take the 777 seat all day long over the left side 747 sup seats that have no legroom.

Bunks on the freighters, no comparison.

And you can run up and down the hall or layout on the floor (If the crew chief or loadmaster hasn’t nested) if enough blankets are provided if you don’t care for the bunks. As said the 777 has less changes and you can count on seeing what your schedule indicates. 74 does become a change monkey, but sometimes you get better opportunities and definitely more unique locations. Adverse to change 74 is not your game. Comfort is unmatched for the most part. (Not the pax birds)… doors suc…

True…about just the seats themselves. However, to me, it is all about the configuration. The 777 seats are 4 abreast, closer to the noise from those using the galley and bathes you in galley lighting. Also, the 777 bunks tend to get warm, so its occupants tends to set the zone temp to what is usually too cold for me in the supernumerary seats.

Without hesitation, I prefer the 747 for long DHs as I always sleep better DHing on the Whale…..even with the risk of getting the left side. To each, their own.

If you plan on being here a while and enjoying yourself take the 74.
If you’re planning on moving on quickly then pick the 77, more current type rating.
