Is this how it would work if I was married to someone who's on Active Duty but stationed outside of the US?

Yes. International Gateway is new as of December and it is working out great.

Could be a bit more complicated to get to base or expensive depending on where your spouse is stationed. PM me if you need further details.

Apologies for hijacking the thread somewhat, considering applying to Atlas with the possibility of commuting/semi-commuting from Australia (east coast). I've gone through countless other threads on this topic both here and on pprune as well as facebook groups with the verdict ranging from "you're crazy to even consider it" to "yes it can be done". I'm single with no family, which perhaps makes it a little easier.

A west coast base ie LAX, ONT would probably be more suitable for this I imagine.

Could another option as a compromise be having a place in Hawaii with HNL as the gateway? A much shorter commute yet still having the option of travelling to Aus being a little bit closer, with Id travel or even jumpseating in months containing larger chunks of days off. Not my first choice of places to live, but could be worse spots than Hawaii! Happy to hear peoples thoughts.

Ensure HR updates eCrew with your foreign address, simple email, so that travel sees you are a XXX gateway.

Find your ideal flights on your preferred carrier, I assume AA for you out of Spain. Email our travel desk the details, I like to highlight savings off the 1250 one way cap, and a few hours later, check your AA app, be happily surprised to find the booking, and select your seat.

You will have a hotel booked in base upon your arrival, and you will have a hotel booked between returning to base and heading for home if needed.

Suffer through a few months of economy seats until your status rapidly builds and you secure complimentary upgrades.

As for base and aircraft... ORD 747 or MIA 777 or 747 when commuting out of Spain. JFK is really expensive when you are trying to find food on layovers. 767 JFK is a good option, it is a phantom base, as of now you will never see it... until something changes. I do FRA to PDX on the 767, but I am from Portland and still have family there. It works well.
Great info. Thank you. Is this a hand shake agreement/courtesy or an official policy by Atlas. Completed part 1 of the interview recently and asked about this program, with HR telling me it was Domestic Only Gateway. I want International Gateway 100%, just want to confirm as I continue the interview process. Would make Atlas an easy choice since I could continue to live overseas and not worry about the commute cost.

Official LOA added to the CBA. Voted on and passed by the Union Members in November. Signed by the CEO and Union President.

Does the company really pays 1250 each way to commute from outside USA? And the process is easy? Or you have to do a lot of calls to get the tickets?

im currently working at a regional airline but atlas is calling my attention because my family and partner live in Barcelona, so if the international gateway program really works, I think it will be a perfect fit for me.

what document do you need to show to the company to prove that you live outside of the country? I suppose that my permanent resident card from Spain would be enough right?

and for what I understand, the best option will be the 747 out of MIA to have an easy commute, are they actually giving the 747 during Indoc?

thanks a lot in advance for your help.
Sooo I got a CJO for the 747 February 19!!!!! Of course I already accepted.

During the interview, they told me that I’ll probably be ANC base for some time. Now my question with the international gateway program is this…. With the 2500$ round trip they give you, do you have to get to ANC, from Spain in my case, or I have to get to any airport in the USA and then Atlas will get me to ANC ON their own? The reason why I’m asking is because BCN to Miami is affordable with 2500 round trip, but BCN to ANC it gets a lot more expensive..

thanks in advance for the help.

congrats.

1. it’s not 2500$ rounds trip, it’s actually 1250$ one way. And you need to get to your domicile not to the US.
2. You will probably be out of ANC before you are out of training, So don’t stress that too much.

Congratulations, and welcome aboard.

Don't sweat this too much, as you should be able to bid into ORD, JFK, or MIA shortly after OE. We have monthly vacancy bids and a lot of movement.

For the interim, you can still Jumpseat to the States and ask for alternative travel to ANC. According to the LOA, the company can gateway you on company metal. There are flights between ANC and MIA.

Day one or day two of Indoc, you will have access to the standing bid. Submit your bid as soon as possible, but latest by March 10th.
