How is it living in Hawaii and working for Atlas? Is PHNL ever going to be a base? I understand the 767 is CVG but always see the 747 in Honolulu! Also if you have a type on the 747-400 does that influence which plane you will go into?

I imagine better than living in North Dakota... A buddy lives in Maui and is based in PAE. It's just a long ride to get to/from work, and if you're getting hit with imputed income, potentially expensive. But hey, you're living in hawaii!

Doubt PHNL would ever be a base, as it's a stop along a popular route, not an originator.

No, not necessarily. Class seniority decides which airplane, although internally they might wait until they had a class they knew would be all 747. Downside is you might get stuck in ANC as a new hire vs. CVG on the 767, but if you live in HNL, ANC would be an easier commute anyway. Latest vacancy bid had 50 new hire slots in ANC on the 747, only 12 in CVG on the 767.

Hawaii is now a gateway, and not just HNL, either.

LOTS of guys live overseas. Usually, the travel is not too bad. Here are some recent examples:

Co. buys ticket for guy from Kiev to Western Europe, where he starts a trip.
Guy in Philippines pays cheap ticket to HKG, company buys him ticket from HKG to ANC to start a trip (or he DH on atlas to ANC).
Guy in Dubai gets ticket paid for by co. from DXB to Asia to start a trip.
Some guys overseas still have US gateway, and their overseas tickets are usually cheaper than his US gateway tickets.
Another guy overseas says his Gateway is in HI, and the company usually pays for his travel.

Guys live in Europe, S. America, the Carribbean, Middle East, Asia, Australia, Canada. If you want to live overseas Atlas (or Kalitta) is much better than DAL/UAL/AA.

Me thinks you would have to be pretty senior to bid lines that don't start and stop in base of record to live overseas, correct?

True. In fact, it matters little what the bidline is other than the footprint itself. It's just a fact of life that any given bidline will most likely change before you actually step out the front door. Other than DHL flying that is. Bottom line: Don't decide to fly here or not to fly here on the ability to live overseas. If you like the kind of flying we do then by all means come and join us! If not, then it would be better not to. Those of you who have been following this thread for some time know the mantra well that: "Change is constant". It's a mistake to plan your future enjoyment here on anything else other than liking the adventure of walking out your door not knowing precisely where on the planet you will end up. Some folks do indeed live overseas but for the most part it's on them to get to a gateway city in the U.S. for their assigned pairing. Planning on anything above that is not a good idea.

So haven't visited this forum for a little, starting to be more than a couple cups of coffee to get through it all! Quick question to pose to you all, honestly not trying to stir the pot. How likely is it that Atlas would get higher monthly guarantee and pay? And more contribution to the 401K? Just curious!what the common thought is. Thanks!

Lets just say it can't get any worse! With the current union/new hires taking the reigns of this place, hiring environment along with profitable business model, very likely IMO!

No, not optimism.

The top 2-300 are virtually out the control of the Union now by being out numbered by original Polar + 5yr and below prior airline, civilian pilots.

****ed off pilot group majority that's just not taking the BS anymore.
