Good on you all for resisting the SA 777 class. I encourage all to do the same.

Also, be very aware of the realities of a new hire here. Min guarantee is painfully real. Many cannot afford to take vacation. And you will be awarded an 80 hour line only to lose it to scheduling's whims and make 62 hour guarantee. You will also have to do training on your days off or make 62 hour gaurantee.

On the flip side, you're joining some of the best people in the industry and will enjoy the travel you will get to do. So welcome.

Living in ANC I assumed that I'd most likely get the 74, but that might not be the case. How is the QOL for a junior 76 FO in CVG given the commute from ANC? Also, will I have to pay taxes on the hotel cost in CVG?

There are lots of direct flights on Atlas metal between ANC and CVG and the upper deck is a fairly comfortable ride. Not to mention, it is not uncommon for a bunk to be available.

There are oodles of reasons to not work here. However, if you're dead set on it, don't let getting offered the 767 to necessarily be a deal breaker.

On the 76, if you can bid a line of Asia flying, they pattern you to deadhead out of CVG day one and deadhead back to CVG by your last day. If you live in Anchorage you can typically deadhead straight from there on flights that depart later and get back sooner than your awarded pattern out of CVG. 74 Is definitely ideal for an Anchorage local but there are ways to make the 76 work out ok.

You might be able to deadhead in on a company aircraft so that would negate the airfare taxes. If I was in your shoes, I'd tell them that I wanted the 747 since I lived in ANC and would defer a class date until they can give me a 747 slot.

This is what I'd do... You'll enjoy great seniority in ANC your whole career anyways and the extra month or two won't hurt you.

So, the 767 goes to Asia and Australia? Is there a stop-off somewhere (Hawaii?) or does it have the range to to nonstop?
I'm often checking flightaware out of curiosity and never see the 767 doing anything but domestic and occasional Europe.. do they block tracking some flights?
No biggie, just curious..

Everyone: thanks for the great feedback and food for thought!
Plift: this is exactly what I was looking/hoping for re: Asia lines with the DH to/from ANC. How senior are they? Can i reasonably expect to get them awarded as a junior 76 FO.

Other than some mil pax charters the 76 doesn't fly back and fourth to Asia. The lines I was talking about start the 76 flying out of Asia but since you are based in CVG they build a deadhead on a 74 day 1 to get over to Narita or Taipei. For somebody in anchorage they can just catch a shorter/later flight out of there.

I've been on the 74, and for an Anchorage local I'd definitely ask nicely if you could defer for a 74 class. Just explain that you think it would be best for both you and the company since you live there but that you would take a 76 class if it's not possible to defer.

I have asked some 76 guys how senior the Asia flying goes and was told its a mix of seniority. However looking at the latest bid awards it doesn't look like any very junior guys got it. If you were hired onto the 76 soon you should move up in seniority quick since most of the growth next year should be on it.

Atlas has hub(s) in Asia that the 767 flies out of...

She told me that the classes that she would be working on after
Staffing the SA Class on December 22 was:

- One 747 Class in January 2017, One 767 Class in February 2017
and One 747 Class in March 2017.

Seems like you might want to call up KF, and ask her if you can
Be considered for a 747 Class!

But, You DIDN'T HEAR THIS FROM ME!
😉👍🏾

I contacted KF about a 747 class that started a week after my availability. She told me that class was 3 classes away and she had to fill the classes prior before she could offer me a spot in that class. I went online and purchased an edible arrangement and sent it to her in Purchase. The next day I got a phone call telling me I had an "unofficial" spot in the class I wanted....

YMMV
