Did I strike a nerve with you and your airline job? Seems like I got under the skin somehow?

It's annoying to see you come back every few months with different usernames with your same pathetic, mopey posts. Just give it a rest already.

I'm sorry man. I am just a loser who hates my life

If you are serious (I have no reason to doubt this statement), should you be permitted to fly paying passengers? We have a handful of examples of pilot suicide.

Did you miss that I am no longer an airline pilot? And why wouldn't it be OK for me to fly?

You say you are a loser that hates life. That is a classic trigger signal psychologists use in evaluating risk factors to others.

The poster did not say he is a loser who hates life. He said he is a loser who hates his life. There is a difference. He's not an airline pilot. He's not happy in his current position. That would place him in the camp of a great many people who are not satisfied with their current status. "Loser" is subjective.

One school of thought suggests that everyone is a winner. Another suggests this is not so. Yet another suggests that it's a sliding scale, and some might posit that anyone not meeting a goal, or standard, or societal norm, is a loser. Joe Dirt was coined a "beautiful loser." Ace Ventura viewed many as lah-hah-zoo-zers. Where the poster might fall on that scale is a function of his own observation, and not necessarily an indictment or psychological diagnosis. Perhaps he simply lost his keys. It happens. A few of us have long since lost our marbles. Some might agree that it's not a bad thing. Only the poster may say, for certain.

This much we know: one may always buy (or win) new marbles.

I've certainly given recommendations for those who were worthy, but those who grovel seeking out a toe-hold, rather than stand on their own two feet, stand out as pathetic and of small caliber. Those who make contacts for the purpose of using those contacts as toe-holds on their curtain climb to the big brass ring disgust me. No, I don't network, and I'm quite content with my employment, thanks. My comments are not a complaint.

There was a lot of good information in that post, but networking isn't really a skill that comes natural for a lot of people. You shouldn't have a low opinion of anyone who is working hard to try and find a job. My 2 cents

I don't have a low opinion of those who are working hard to be qualified for a job, gaining experience, certification, and broadening their background and training.

I have a very low opinion of those who get a job based on who they know.

If working hard for a job means getting a job based on who you know, instead of busting your own ass to get qualified to do the job and get it on your own merits, then yes, I have a very low opinion. Channel that effort into being better at the job, and better qualified at the job, instead of spending that effort schmoozing and wrangling to get someone to give you that job. I'd much rather fly with someone who got there based on their ability, than someone who got there because they knew someone.

You should admit this is a fairly closed community and skilled people do have friends-business acquaintances that can effect their careers without any suck up taking place. My last job was found that way. I let it be known I was available, a Chief Pilot invited in for an interview, done. I had the right knowledge and skills, but without a network I likely wouldn’t have connected. Still there 17 years later in several capacities including Chief Pilot.
