I think there is validity in the thought that legacies may become more prone to filch folks from LCCs versus their own regional feed.

I think there have been a lot of good points and opinions here. The only thing I can add is this: I think a move to a regional would look strange and likely suspicious on a resume. If the flow works out as advertised, great. But if it doesn't, and you are applying to the legacies out side of a flow, I think you made your resume look really odd. I wouldn't do it

Leaving an LCC/ULCC for a regional is crazy talk. Do the math for a second. You upgrade at an LCC in 2-4 years and make $150-250K. Or go to a legacy, warm the right seat 10+ years for $160K, then maybe upgrade and spend the last 10 years of your career as a narrow body reserve CA. (Don't even bother me with the 2 year upgrades at DAL, that's a temporary anomaly due to base and equipment). Or spend the last 20 years making $200K and a great QOL at an LCC. Seems like a no brainier to me, you're putting almost a million dollars on the table.

A LCC is a career, a legacy is a better career, a regional is a job. Never leave a career for a job. It looks bad on your resume and your bank account. I'd also bet the weakest LCC has a better chance of being around in 20 years than the best regional.

Then there's the FACT that the regional airlines houses are all burning down. The regional jet game is over. No stability, no long term outlook. Making a downward move into that environment would be career suicide.
