If you do choose to leave your ULCC for a regional don't forget to trade in your Mutt Cuts van for a moped to save gas on the drive to ground school.

Default Don't count on it

Mesaba had a flow to NWA, only about 1/4 of the list actually got on. Union leaders agreed to cut it off right after their seniority numbers go figure, they were definitely looking out for the whole group!

Default Perspective - OTS Rates today vs. in 6 years

Just for perspective. Today, AA is hiring a majority that flow from their WOs. The rest, the OTS, are mostly military.

In 6+/- years, the time it would take to flow, the AA manditory retirements will more than double. The other majors have similar numbers.

Where will they get those double the additional pilots? Military? Doubt it. WOs? They may boost their rate of flow, but don't count on it being very much, if at all.

The rest of that doubling of pilot demand will have to be non-military OTS. That means the rest of the regionals, the LCCs, etc. Small percentages will become over 50%.

Why would you want to take a pay cut when it is almost certain outside of flow you can get hired in that period of time?

I think it's brilliant! What an idea!
And I was there! He took the idea! He saw it ripe on the tree, he plucked it, and he put it in his pocket. It's, it's, dare I say... genius? Ah, no, no! But maybe, ooh! ah! maybe it is! Maybe I'm in the presence of greatness, maybe I just don't know it. But I saw it...

While I realize how silly this sounds, with some perspective it can make a little sense. Not to get too detailed but according to most I would appear like a good candidate for Legacy but I am not getting any interview invites and I have been trying for years. My application has been reviewed numerous times, I have a large number of recommendations and attended a few job fairs. I volunteer and try to make myself standout from the thousands of applicants out there but it is not working and I am running out of ideas. So perhaps flow through would be one way to get there.

LCCs may be the next feeders as regionals die off due to lack of pilots and, hopefully (if we're smart, unified, and tough) a tightening of scope if the pilot shortage continues. So, imo:

The ONLY way this would be a reasonable consideration is IF you are commuting and could be a direct entry (or very quick) captain in a city in which you really want to live, for a decent airline with a contractual flow, AND you are short on turbine PIC, which is still a nice addition to any resume and will likely move you up in the hiring stack almost everywhere.

But in most cases I'd say what almost everyone else has so far.
