Cadet Programs
I currently have my private pilots license and am making a career change to try a become a career pilot. I am starting at a flight school in a couple weeks to go instrument through MEI. I have seen a lot thrown around about cadet programs and pilot pathway programs. Does anyone have any input on advantages and disadvantages? Thought that being I am 32 and getting started one of these programs could be of an advantage for me when it comes time to go to a regional gig.

I am in a similar position. Have my PPL, start instrument in March, should be a CFI in the fall.
I have looked at the cadet programs and they all want a commitment without offering much more than seniority- and the seniority is not even the right type of seniority from what I have been told.
Any money they give for training seems to be subtracted from the hiring bonus you would get anyways. I was going to consider it when I get past CFI when I have some more leverage on my end.... the only leverage is being close in time to fill the seat the regionals need filled.

Cadet/Internship programs are pretty useless at regionals. Since they don't (cannot) give you seniority, all they are trying to do is get you emotionally invested in that company. Travel benefits might be nice, and they might give you some sim time but I wouldn't let any that cloud your priorities: fast upgrade near where you want to live.
If a regional would be your first choice anyway, go ahead and sign up if they have a cadet program, you'll get a seniority boost within your new hire class anyway.
Now if a regional has a flow program (some AA regionals, and UA just started one), that is a different consideration entirely. A guaranteed flow program could be a significant benefit. You can *probably* get hired at a major sooner off the street than waiting for the flow, but it's still a very nice backup to have. By flow I mean guaranteed job, not guaranteed interview.
