Yet another DUI question
Hi everyone,
I am applying on airline apps and it asks specifically for DUI convictions. I was arrested for DUI 15 years ago but plea bargained down to Reckless Driving. Question is, should I answer yes to DUI conviction and explain in the remarks the conviction was RD or leave it at a no and explain further in the specific airline addendum section? Any advice is appreciated.
Reason I ask is when I print out the application, it just says "DUI - yes/no" It only specifies conviction when filling out the app.
Thank you!

I'd almost have to read the question, but my gut says check "no" if it asks specifically about a conviction. Keep a screenshot of the application language.
But what kind of reckless was it? Some states specify a "wet" reckless which everyone knows is a watered-down DUI. Personally I'd probably check yes if the reckless had any kind of formal characterization related to DUI.
They will likely ask about other moving violations, and any reckless conviction will obviously merit further discussion at an interview. Checking no while explaining in the addendum might help you get past the computer filter to a human.

Does it say arrested for or convicted of. On the class one medical application it asks if you’ve been arrested for it. Doesn’t matter if you were convicted or not. I know you’re not asking about the med app but just keep that in mind.

Yes, this needs to be reported on the medical, and they will probably want some court docs related to BAC, etc.

The specific question reads, "Have you ever been convicted of: Driving While Under the Influence? Yes No"
I already reported the incident on my medical and received a green light from the FAA. I'm leaning towards saying "no" and providing details in the comments section and the individual airline addendums. Does that pass the common sense test?
Thank for all your replies!

I would say no and then see what is specifically asked in the addendum. Don’t volunteer the info there unless it is asked. It will almost certainly be asked at the interview. As soon as they see reckless driving they will ask if it was a plea down from a DUI because that is a very common reason for one having a reckless driving conviction.
