I did the ATP CTP course at Delta in Atlanta ( together with the written ATP test) and went then for the ATP check ride to PanAm in Miami. They offer shortened type rating courses with prior experience. The FAA will not accept your EASA type rating unfortunately. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hey Guys,

Similar question (ish). I'm currently operating as a captain on the 320/330 in Europe. I've become a little bit bored of the whole scheduled passenger stuff now. I'm 33 and can't really see myself doing this until retirement. I'm considering a move to the states to maybe try something different. I would be interested in trying my hand at Medevac or even corporate. Something a little more exciting. I'm just digging for information of what sort of jobs are out there for someone like me. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Unless you have a green card, citizenship or a work authorization you won’t be able to come here.
The US government has an agreement with Australia and you can find companies sponsoring E-3 visas. But that’s regional flying, none of them are medivac.

Hi Johnny,

Yes I have a green card. I wasn't necessarily saying it would have to be medevac, perhaps a suggestion of something along those lines. After 10,000+ hours of Pax jets i'm just looking for something a little more rewarding.

Hi all,

Have a similar question and situation to the original post.
I’m making a move to be with my wife who’s a US citizen sometime this year. (After a lengthy immigration process).
I’m currently type rated on the ATR and will have near 1000 hours on type by the time I make the move across the pond.

I’m aware of some of the steps I have to take to gain my FAA certificates. Such as get into an ATP-CBT course, do the written exam then take the ATP check ride.

My main question is, what would you guys recommend for study/material to prepare for the ATP check ride. I plan to do a shorted type rating so I can take the test on my aircraft type. What things and recommendations do you all have I do to prepare for the oral exam of the ATP check ride. And if anyone has gone through the process before I would greatly appreciate your insight!

I did have a look at some prep books but most focus on different aircraft etc. I just don’t want to be unprepared and obviously haven’t ever done an oral exam as in the UK it is paper based technical exams for type rating and the god awful ATPL exams that I did well over 4 years ago.

Also a side question, will my experience count for anything in the states? I’m going in with the mindset I won’t stand out compared to anyone else who has 1500 hours of total time. I have also got some experience on the Saab 2000.

I realise I wrote CBT instead of CTP, (it's been a long week of 4am wake ups and late arrivals home)

I went to the similar process last year, I recommend you to reach 1500 hours and apply for the ATP Licence. Start your application using IACRA for your foreign verification letter), then contact your school of preference and enroll into the ATP-CTP course ( you will get a certificate valid por 5 years) , later you will be able to take the ATM-test ( multiengine test for atp) , finally you can fly a seneca or take a type rating for your final checkride .
DM if you have further questions.

Hi thank you for the reply!
I’d be grateful if you could share how your experience was and what you used to help prep for it all!
Sent you a DM
Cheers

Hi Everyone,

I am in a similar condition, working for a national flag carrier as First Officer in Europe with total 4100 flying hours (1000hrs on A320, 3100 hrs on A330). I have only 125 hrs PIC which I made with FAA PPL in the U.S. I am probably moving to the U.S. within the next 6 months and I still don't know if I should get the FAA ATP-CTP course before applying to any airline or I should submit my resume before having FAA ATP and request from airline companies to provide me the related courses for free.

The thing is If stay here for one-two years more, I will be upgraded as a Captain. However, I don't see any future in this toxic working environment for myself. My dream is to work for FEDEX or DELTA. Hence, I would also be happy working for SPIRIT or FRONTIER in Fort Lauderdale. I am also okay with cargo carriers such as ATLAS and KALITTA. However, I am not sure how long it may take in these companies to be upgraded as Captain... any idea about regionals and corporates such as FLEXJET? Are they better options to continue aviation career for pilots with less PIC hours?

To recap: where would you continue your career if you were in shoes?

Thanks
