Pilot Shortage is over?

The 80£ were boom years as two-tier, booming economy and first blush of deregulation came in. Every airline was hiring p (there were probably 8 or 9 then, before the first round of consolidations. The 70s, however really sucked, made the 90s look like boom years—bloat of boom hiring in the ‘60s, two fuel crisies, inflation and interest at 18%. So, this is the way of aviation.

You have to look at the present early-mid 20 something mindset today of not being able to handle any kind of adversity and entitlement to a job. Based on that alone I'm betting on a real pilot shortage down the road.

I think that’s a bit of an overreach. The boomer-millennial chasm isn’t as wide as you think, and every generation thinks the one coming after them are a bunch of secular pussies, nothing new here hoss.

Even if there was a major airline shortage, it would not last very long. If by "shortage" we assume the LCCs taking guys at 1500 hours or not much later, there would be a MASSIVE increase in flight school enrollments due to media coverage and the general population spouting that "in <5 years you'll be making 150k+." No real artificial barriers of entry (other than cost of training) compared to other professions either.

I fit into the age bracket I'm criticizing and it comes from experience. Everything from financial ignorance to ridiculousness on social media and entitled attitudes. The stereotypes are not undeserved.

My History teacher had a great saying: People are people and always have been and always will be.
To come back to the thread subject, perhaps: The pilot shortage is almost here and always has been and always will be.

Oddly enough, Gen-X probably makes up A LOT of the pilots that dealt with the ENTIRE dark decade (and a half for the most part).
