Default How do I play this?

Well, when it rains it pours. I start class this week at a major. But, last night I got an interview invite from a legacy. I know for a fact that strings were pulled to get me the legacy interview so I have every intention of interviewing and leaving for the new company assuming I get a CJO. I'll be interviewing on some off-days between indoc and systems/procedures training. My question is what happens when the current company gets the PRIA requests while I'm still in indoc. Am I going to get fired? Carpet dance? Pulled from training? It'll be about 6-8 weeks until a class date after a CJO so I do want the job security in the meantime but I'd be very interested if anyone has experienced this situation before.

Show up to class with a good attitude. Focus on getting through training. Interview the best you can. Hope that you get the job offer. You will not be punished or fired for any paperwork requests from the Legacy… good luck

They got a PRIA request doesn’t mean anything other than they got a PRIA request. The chances of someone from the PRIA keeper department is going to put you on a list to forward to the VP of Flight OPS to send down to the CPs and training center to find out where you are and pull you aside is pretty far fetched even for the regionals. I wouldn’t worry about it at a major. That being said while you’re in training resign via email when you’re at home so if the company chooses to terminate you immediately, you’re not stuck anywhere.

You're not aware that PRIA ended last year, as the Pilot Records Database became the clearinghouse for your records, which are maintained in one location, for your lifetime?

Your plan for the short term is to take the training and money from the major, with full intention to leave them, knowing you have zero intent to provide any service or complete the training.

Setting aside the moral questionability or deceit you offer by this act, you're worried that if your future employer finds out about your deceit, that it might affect you in a negative way? What if I get caught? Or simply worried about the present employer, the major for whom you intend to take the money and training and run without ever planning to give anything in return, might learn of your deceit and fire you? Is your concern that you might not get to keep the job that you don't plan to keep, or that it might look bad later if/when you get caught?

The major could have someone in that class who wanted to be there. Could have someone there who will work for them, give them a return on their investment. Provide service to the company, instead of taking a training slot, a wage, and then walking away leaving the major high and dry. They could, but they offered to hire you. Too bad for the major; poor gamble on their part, but at least you can take their money deceitfully until your real job comes along, then leave them high and dry. Good for you. Bad for the guy who would be filling that class slot, who actually wanted the job. He didn't get hired. You did. Maybe next time, for him. Doesn't matter to you: you're simply collecting the major's money until your dream job shows up, just milking the cow until you get what you want.

Don't worry about it. Watch out for number one. That's you. Not the major. Not the guy you displaced. You don't have to worry about the major needing to interview someone else, go through the administrative steps to get them on board and into class, to replace you, because this is about you, and although you took the major job or are about to take it knowing that you do so deceitfully, it's about number one. Your day to shine.

Screw everybody else, right? Right?

Wow… can’t measure the degree of sarcasm, if any, in the above post. Go to training, pass the interview, assess, and go to the place that best suits the needs of you and your family. You’re a number to every airline out there. It isn’t personal…

Edit: Guys in my legacy class left for other legacies post-Indoc and during sims. Your needs come first.

Wait. You got that?

Then, it worked. My god, it worked. It worked!

If you do that, get a CJO from the legacy, and turn in your resignation during training, you will be one of many.

Short version: until you have a FJO in hand from the legacy carrier you have no choices to make other than whether to pursue the interview to see if you can get the FJO. The economy contracted last quarter. There is no guarantee that anyone will be hiring in three months. Take the bird in hand, pursue better options, make choices as they present themselves. Your current company poached you from a different company. The legacy may poach you from the major. None of them will hesitate to kick you to the curb (furlough) to protect the company. You should be equally cold blooded about protecting your family.

Personally, I'd draw the ethical line at taking a job while knowing 100% that I had a job offer elsewhere and also being 100% sure that I was going to accept the later offer. Assuming short timeline... If I was in an 18 month pool and needed a job, hell yes I'd take a job. A lot can change in 18 months anyway.

Other than that the fact that you *might* get an interview, CJO, and might accept another job at some point in the future is irrelevant. Otherwise nobody should ever take a job at a regional unless they are 100% committed to being a lifer, which is not how the modern employment landscape works.

But even so, airlines will let you resign from your current job and start class while knowing full-well that they're going to furlough in a few weeks... so don't feel like you owe them too much consideration.

My philosophical approach to doing business with a real human being at a Mom & Pop would be different than that for a faceless corporation.
