Default Dress Code?

There's a job fair coming to ATL in June. They say it is casual dress. How do folks dress at these affairs?

Some say casual and some say wear a suit.
If the job fair says casual, then go smart casual.
Remember, it is a job fair and interviews will most likely not be held on site.

For a job fair I would probably go with slacks, white shirt, and tie minimum if you plan on talking to any recruiters.

Depends. When the sponsor/host of a job fair says that the dress code is "business casual" when they get up there and speak before the job fair even begins, as well as states that the company's recruiters that showed up (the most desired "legacy", the most desired "LCC", and most desired freight company) like it that way as well as dressed business casual themselves for the relaxed environment it creates for the 30 seconds of "face time" you'll get, what do you do?

To take it a step further, there's a couple coveted shops out there interviewing pilots and the interview directions state the dress code is business casual. The guys that show up wearing the standard issue interview uniform stand out, and NOT in a good way. Cant follow directions = NOT the kind of pilot they're looking for.

Being a little overdressed is not generally a show stopper, that is generally more acceptable than the other way.

And if you've interviewed at the shops I was talking about, you would be wrong. The overdressed (can't follow directions) stood out. Again, NOT in a good way.

Also, people at said job fair that talked to the legacy that's the "place to be", as well as the LCC that's the "place to be", as well as the freight carrier that's the "place to be" dressed in the business casual attire were taken just as serious as those that suited it up.

But hey, believe what you wish man.

Your info is recent and relevant, so I'd go with that if I was going to the same job fair. Which one was it?

But if you're not sure, dress conservative. I haven't been to any in a few years but it was always suits or shirt/tie.

Wear a suit. At the very least wear slacks and a blazer. You can ALWAYS dress down. You can't dress up. Once you get there, evaluate the situation, but you should be at least equal to or one level of dress above what the interviewers are wearing.

Personally, do you want to work at a company that penalizes you for looking good?

To steal a bit from Groucho (not Karl) Marx:

I wouldn't want to work at any company that would hire me!
