Default Trying to get back to the flight deck

Greetings,

I am a 10,000 hour ex-regional airline captain. I had to leave the industry for personal reasons (divorce/childcare issues, NOT a training issue!!). Looking back, I should have never left, but you know what they say about hindsight. I was current up until last September as a sim instructor at a "large training company". Otherwise, I haven't flown in several years. I want to get back to flying, but I also can't afford to start over at regional airline wages. Am I a fool for thinking I am marketable to a major/national carrier since I am not "current"? Thanks for any replies.

Posts on this forum seem to indicate Republic considers experienced pilots who are not current. Good luck, and take advantage of some of the current hiring while it is still active. If you have the check airman experience that would open some extra doors for you. A startup would consider you for F/O, then upgrade you quickly. I saw mention of a startup somewhere north of San Diego, don't know if/when they will start.

Do some CFI or part 91 on the side. With your experience that will probably be enough after a couple hundred hours.

Depending on what your experience is, I mean which type of a/c, 10k hrs is a lot for anywhere in the world except here in USA, where U will have to start as a first officer below an 800 hr guy........ And I am sure that U alrteady know that....

Have U considered flying with carriers overseas as an EXPAT,
If it sounds something that U'd like to do, just get in with anyone on anything, get current, maybe fly for 1-3 or 6 months for your conmfort & confidence and then move to an overseas carrier in china, south east asia or middleeast , that's where the money is........ With the amount of your experience & PIC hrs, they won't even say anything about GAP, they need people so badly.....

I'm not really sure what flying as an "EXPAT" involves. Kinda clueless in that area. Can you shed some light on that?

Abreviation for expatriate. "a person temporarily or permanently risiding in a country and culture other than that of the person's upbringing or legal residence."
