Okay, wow. Having been on the hiring committees before, I would say "Wrong."

Occasionally, I have had folks send me a resume that is a few hours short, but their experience was excellent. We interviewed them, and if all else was good said "let us know when you get X hours."

Don't lie. Period.

I wouldn't sweat it. The real issue will be when you recieve your first paycheck.

 

Most companies will probably not care as long as you have the time before you interview. Eagle will probably audit your book, figure out that you did not have the time when you claimed you did, and disqualify you permanently.

Other airlines it will depend on the individual interviewer...if he's a real stickler and he notices it he may send you packing.

Honestly usually pays...when confronted with exactly the same situation with eagle years ago (I was a little short of the 300 ME they required), I discussed it with them and they simply asked how long it would take to get to 300 and scheduled the interview shortly after.`

 

Well the airline interviews I was at they did not audit anything just looked at checkrides which were tabbed, BUT do not lie and do not think this is ok because it is not. I think if you have the time they wont notice but it is still shady. Best get rid of that thinking quickly because someone WILL notice, maybe just not right away. Why didnt you just submit the application with the correct hours... They sometimes drop below their mins if it is close enough which you are but now that you lied and they potentially find it you could be hosed.

 

I suggest you get the time before you go to the interview if not, be prepaped to be booted out for it. I know you can't wait to get hired but don't be desperate. You don't want your potential employer to see that you are desperate and not honest with your actual times.

 

There was one life-long CFI at my university who exactly did that on his application...I'm not sure how many years ago, but back in the day, he was unable to get a job because of that...

 

When I interviewed with XJT the first thing they did was collect everyone's logbooks. While you are going over an HR presentation and doing some paperwork, the interviewers are combing through logbooks. Within about 20 minutes they came back in and booted 3-4 people before they even got a chance to interview. I was near the door and overheard someone in the hallway saying "Logbook issues". One of the guys in my new hire class was friends with one of those who got booted and he said the guy did exactly what you did (completed the application saying he had the hours before he actually did). So I'd be prepared for some disappointment and hopefully some lesson-learning if I were you.

 

If you have the time when you go into the interview you'll probably be alright contrary to what everyone else is saying. They're not going to look at your application date and look at the dates in your logbook and try to figure that out. As long as you have the mins that's all they really care about.

If you don't have the time when you go in then you'll be kicked out for lying on your application. I would either get the time or cancel the interview making up some excuse.

 

Are you SURE about that? For every airline? Because that is EXACTLY what I was told they do/did at XJT. It's arithmetic, not rocket science. All you have to do is look at the application date, look in the logbook for the total time on that date. Either the numbers add up or they don't. Takes you all of 20 seconds per applicant. Have a couple interns help and it wouldn't take long at all to figure out who lied on their app and who didn't.

Lets take a step back though... Come on guys, seriously!? Seriously?! Why would you even put yourself in that position in the first place!? I know its tempting to rush to the regionals as fast as you can but once you play this game a couple of times you'll realize how much voodoo, superstition and nuance plays into airline hiring. If you're flying with the kind of currency that the airlines want anyway, how long is it really going to take you to get that last 10 or 15 hours? A week? Two? Just suck it up and wait the extra time before hitting submit on the application. That way you can go into the whole process with a clean conscience and with one less potential skeleton in your closet come interview time.
