I read the proposed rule last week and it does specify a Bachelor degree and a University approved flight school under part 141 . I am in the same boat, did mine through 61 so I commented on the proposed rule about the subject.

On that note, if you haven't had a chance I think everyone should take the time to comment on this rule, whether you agree with it or not you should let your opinion known on the specifics.

Look up the rule and read it. It's posted here on APC somewhere.

I could tell you the answer but if you plan several years of your career based on what someone on the internet told you...that would be very bad judgement. After you read it if you still have questions I'll try to help.

The question makes me wonder about the whole degree exemption. Fours years of study and they have no idea how to look up a reg or a NPRM.

Default Just over a decade ago

Just over a decade ago when this career was still worth something it was not all that common for those with less than 1500 hours to get hired at a regional anyway. In my new hire class in the late 1990's I was the lowest time guy in class with 4000 hours.

The fact that it is common now to get hired with so little time should be evidence to all of how miserable this profession really is. Most who get hired now loose faith and quit within a few years.

There are thousands of furloughed and laid off pilots around but the regionals still can only find new hires with a few hundred hours to fill their classes. The writing is on the wall for those who care to see it.

Apparently it does at RAH. It's still not a living wage, but it might help them steal applicants away from other regionals until everyone else gets with the program.
