Major US airlines hiring qualifications
We all know the minimums, because the likes of Delta et al post them on their website.
My question is, what is the typical flight experience of a new hire by Delta or United? I imagine it`s well above the minimums stated on their website, which is usually something along the lines of 1500 hours.
Thanks for any help!

I'm sure the RJ guys hired, when the doors open, will be in the 5000-8000 hour range. The fighter guys will have 1500-2000 hours, max. And the AF heavy guys will have 2500-3500 hours. All of them will have similar totals of jet PIC time--1500-2000 hours.

Although I mainly lurk on here I might as well start posting.
The answer to your question is actually pretty easy IMO. Its not what you know its WHO you know that will get you on at a Major. If you network and make the right connections I can bet that you will get on with any airline if you network. It will be a few years before I get the FW time to make the mins at Delta but I know as long as I do not bomb the interview I will have an excellent chance because of the pilots/employees I know at Delta.
If you network well in advance I would say you would be competitive at 10-15% above mins. NETWORKING is the KEY to Aviation.

I separate in the fall with 1500+ hours fighter PIC, and am considering applying to Sun Country and Compass, as the majors, to include cargo, are not hiring/I don't meet requirements. Any words? Responses and PMs welcome.
Thanks.
Thanks.

First thing, if you don't have an ATP yet, take one of the quicky courses (advertised in many aviation magazines) and fill that square before the rules change.
Then get into any 121 crew operation that does not have a training contract.
My guess is that Continental (OK, the CAL side of UCH) will have to start hiring soon due to the many UAL furloughees that have passed on job offers at the CAL side. There will probably be a strike there soon, and a lot of hiring should start as soon as it is settled.
In any case, age 65 will start the next hiring cycle no later than Jan 2013.
If possible, stay in the reserves or guard.
