So you can cut me down? Put me in my place? I'll pass thanks. Had a simple question, not trying to flame, spark a debate, etc... I've gotten a lot of good answers and thoughts, let's leave this on a positive note.
Thanks to everyone with a story or thought, much appreciated!

I hope you found what you were looking for in the thread. Myself - I would find it interesting that a company might actually be interested in what a person did in school let's say 20+ years ago rather than what s/he has been up to the last quarter century - but any discriminator at certain times is useful in some manner.

Then just be honest and tell them you were busy working on building your flying resume, and paying your bills, vs. all that -other crap- they make you take in college.
When I got my flying job, I transfered out of Aero Engineering, into the easiest thing I could find, Business! That's where all the football players were! My senior year, I needed some -filler- credits to graduate, so I took a lot of "electives".
I got an A in archery, golf, hockey and scuba diving, but English and History? Well who needs words, some things are better left unsaid, and that History? Well that's just yesterday's news!
But I had 2,500 hours too, and 2,000 of it was multi/turbine/night when I graduated.

What have you done to make up/improve on it? Have you re-taken any of the classes? Have you furthered your education to another degree or at least minor? Can you point out examples of other academic areas where you've excelled?

My apologies. I guess I'm drawing on my experience of reading posts on other forums... I tend to be a little guarded and untrusting. I took your quick question for something it wasn't, snapped, and for that I apologize.

When I was asked about my gpa I mentioned all the extras ie. flying volunteer work etc. there was a long uncomfortable pause and then I said "did I mention I was a waiter in a sorority house?" they laughed and I was hired.

This is purely my opinion. You should consult professional advice (hiring counselor or interview prep) if you are worried about it.
Every airline I've interviewed with requested copies of original college transcripts. Do not lie. That is a show stopper. Your GPA is not.
Do give an answer that feels like you're making an excuse ... "I was busy working 4 jobs, one of them being an instructor" as a reason for your GPA. Turn it into a positive. Show that you've learned from the situation.
IF they ask you about your low GPA, mention something like "While in college, money was tight. I managed to get buy by working 4 jobs. I was a waitor at XYZ, janitor at XYZ, male dancer at XYZ, and I was also a flight instructor at XYZ company. During that time I learned a valuable lesson in that working all of those jobs detracted from educational studies and since I feel education is so important, never again will I allow some financial difficulties affect my studies. One of the things I am proud of is that during that time of turmoil in my life, I was able to maintain a 3.5 GPA in my degree core compentencies."
See how that doesn't sound like it is an excuse anymore but rather someone who has learned and grew up to be a better person because of those experiences?
My high school GPA was very very low ... embarrassing low. I had a good reason for it. But thankfully, nobody mentioned it during an interview.
