Default GPA and Delta

Ok, first of all, NOT trying to start a war on College Degrees, hiring boom, pilot shortage, etc...

I have a college degree and will be competitive within the next year or two for whenever Delta starts hiring again. My one drawback is I had a 2.5GPA when I graduated college, I have HEARD that DAL will not look at anyone below a 3.0GPA. Do they really care? Is this true? I doubt they'll really check my transcripts but I don't want to lie on the application either in the rare event that they actually do. I know this is one small detail among many but this is the question I have...

A GPA below 3.0 isn't a show stopper.

I would be very suprised if they didn't check your transcripts.

As for the GPA it depends on where and what you studied. A 2.5 in MIT astropysics would probably impress them a lot. A 2.5 in basket-weaving with a double minor in feelings and entitlement will probably underwhelm. In any case, if you have an otherwise strong app and if you go in prepared and do well at everything else, I would be shocked if they didn't hire you.

Bottom line. Tell the truth and be yourself. That's what they're looking for. Can they see flying with you. They look at a lot of things. Don't assume any stone won't be turned over. Good luck, love to have you onboard.

Do you have a good 'excuse'?

Ie. were you flying full time (or working your way through school) and going to school full time? My grades were not good, but I don't ever recall anyone at Delta asking me about it. But prior to Delta, when I was being interviewed for an Air Guard slot, they did ask me why. My 'excuse' was, I was flying cancelled checks all night, M-F, during my last two years of college.

Good Point,

I've never seen it published anywhere that a GPA below 3.0 would disqualify an applicant. I guess they could always adjust tha airline apps filter to omit certain applicant below a certain GPA, but only someone from the hiring department would know exactly.

Only thing I would tell you, be completely honest and upfront with your application. Attempting to hide or lie about anything will more than likely get you the ax.

Put your real GPA down and then you don't have to worry about whether or not they will check it. If they catch you hiding your GPA, they would automatically think what else could you be hiding from them? At that point, your GPA is 0 and your resume is 0.

Thank you for all the candid answers. Would NEVER lie on an app, trust that. My excuse was working 4 jobs (one was flight instructing) and I have a 3.5 in my major's courses but general eds were not so hot.

Here's hoping for a call next year!

Thanks again
