Default Effects of a "Minor in Possession" ticket

Well I just moved into college a couple of days ago and I am hearing a lot of talk about people getting into trouble for underage consumption of alcohol. It just seems like drinking tickets are handed out like candy on a college campus and I am afraid to get one. I'm not trying to go out every night and blackout drunk but my biggest fear is going to a party, maybe having a few beers and then get nailed with an underage consumption ticket. I was just hoping I could get some professional opinions on the subject and if I did get one how it would affect my career. I feel like I have two options: One being I could go out and drink responsibly and roll the dice on getting an MIP or I could go my first two and a half years of college without drinking.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Do NOT attend fraternity parties if you want to party. Too much attention.

If you or your buddies know of a smaller isolated party off campus that'd be best to attend if you choose to drink underage.

I'm NOT advocating underage drinking, but I have been a college student.

Don't go out with the goal of getting hammered before you're 21. End of story.

At least you are aware of the consequences of your actions....that seems to be more than many can claim. Good luck!

gee, what Texas college are you at....

if you want any sort of military pilot career you need to stay away from ANY criminal charges, however minor. civilian jobs more flexible but in todays job market, why roll the dice ? your background / history reflect your decision making and maturity.

NO, absolutely, NONE, drug usage or possession, etc. NONE.

stay away from big campus parties or go but don't be drinking. ON campus parties riskiest, for these kinds of things by the way. Campus police really have not much to do.

stay away from Frats and join the Spanish Club (hot latin chicks) or the Young (insert politcal party) Club, etc etc. Same for (insert country) College Italians or Spain People on Campus. similar social life / opposite sex benefits without the stupidity factor.

Just tell them you are interested in their culture and international relations and they will let you in. Don't admit you want to, uh, have relations, with their chicks.

recommendation: try to at a minimum learn what city is the capital of that country. also maybe the main food. both can be found on google for free. How is XXX city this time of year ? I would like to try XXX food. What is your phone number

etc

good luck. I have done all of the above and my tactics worked like a snake charmer. Let the frat boys get drunk and try to hook up at the Pi-Kappa-whatever house. Good luck.

you will be at Hot Italian Exchange student house

trust me

** do NOT tell anyone of your secret black ops tactics. Or 100's of 18 year old morons will join these clubs. Low profile my friend.

The above is some of the worst advice you could follow. If you dont want to get in trouble for drinking in public, then dont drink in public... as a minor. To link that in with going to fraternity parties and/or joining a fraternity, shows they were either not in a fraternity or ignorant to them. At the very least, it will do nothing more than provide you an avenue in which to mature yourself and give you contacts and friends for the rest of your life. If nothing else, it will give you a group of people that will watch your back in you do decide to partake in less than ethical activites and keep you out of trouble!
Take it or leave it, this is just advice from someone who joined a fraternity and made lifelong friends, most of whom are flying for varioius airlines currently. We all managed to have a great time in school and stay out of trouble... at least legal trouble

somewhat correct but MIP has nothing to do with being in public or not.

tell you what, O.P., follow both sets of advice and let us know which one works out the best.....

while I agree that no exposure is the only way to stay out of trouble, you shouldnt have to shelter yourself. If you have to be a priest and hide, get great grades and bang the foriegn girls/guys, then all you'll get upon graduation is $18,000 a year, and ZERO experience in life. Someone mentioned military above, and that is cut and dry... no drugs
