Where do I fit in?
Greetings all. I am a long time lurker, first time poster here and APC. I am starting to turn my attention back to joining the ranks of civilian commercial aviation after focusing on my Air National Guard career for the past 5 years. I am seeking advice on where I fit into the civilian commercial world whith these stats:
Total time: 1700
ME turbo prop: 1500
METPIC: 300
Types: L-382, BE20
I have around 400 hours of combat time as well. I was hoping to get a corporate job or some other type of private jet/turbo prop job. Any comments would be most appreciated.
Anyone who is seeking advice about joining the Air National Guard feel free to ask in this thread as well, as I am not going to be able to PM yet.
Thanks,
Loady

As much as I would love to serve my country in the guard, I'm like aged wine. Too old for a young mans war.
To answer your question, you have to check each companies minimum requirements for hire. Most of the majors and legacy a require a bit more TT. But you meet the qualifications for all the regionals.

You could probably get a Lear SIC job. But that is about it for private jets. Most medium/heavy jets require just as much as the major airlines. But, corporate is all about who you know.
Corporate turboprops would be right up your alley also.

You have the minimums for many major airlines (assuming you have all the requirements for an ATP), and with military experience you should be able to get something.
As far as corporate you have 1000+ turbine hours and even some TPIC, so compared to most civilians in your hour range you are way ahead of the game. But the key to corporate is networking...even 17,000 hours won't get you a job if you don't know anyone.
If you're just looking for a job, apply to airlines. If you really want corporate, then you'll have to make some friends. Start hanging out at the local drome, maybe do some CFI work, and talk to everybody. Hit up your mil buddies if any of them are in corporate.
