Default Is a college degree mandatory?

I hear much advise about getting youre degree if you want to fly for a career. I know many smart sucessful people without degrees, in aviation is a degree a must.

It certainly isn't mandatory to fly, but, flying aside, I think a college degree certainly helps to establish most people on whichever path they choose in life.

P.S. Spellcheck is often underrated.

A degree isn't mandatory but you will have less options without one. You may want to work on your spelling and grammar. I met a chief pilot at a flying school who's spelling was atrocious. I couldn't take him seriously and changed schools.

No, but it's mandatory to know how to spell and proofread.

Unfortunately, judging from about 50% of the posts on this website it is not mandatory to know how to either spell or proofread. And grammar? I'd say upwards of 70% of the pilots posting aren't able to craft a 6th grade level paragraph.

That being said, please go to college. Major in something useful. Don't look for the easy way out.

[mod note] Thread title spell-checking was performed by yours truly, utilizing a college degree.

For airlines...

Mandatory? In theory, no.

But for all practical purposes, yes, unless you have close family connections in the flight operations department of a major airline.

For non-airline flying...

Not mandatory, but certainly helpful (especially when the economy tanks and you can't get a flying job).

By the way, I meant to say "whose" not "who's".

That's okay. Chief Pilot at a flying school is much like head pickle bottle washer in an aspirin plant. Catchy title, doesn't pass the smell test, and comes with a built-in headache. Never short on zing, though.
