Default Need some advice. CFII to SIC turboprop????

So heres the skinny. I got into the game a little older than most (currently 32, married, 2 dogs, etc.) Unfortunately, mommy and daddy didn't pay for college or gas in a cessna so all my training took some time, and extra funds that I had. Anywho, onto the point...

I am around 550TT CFI at a place where I can log about 80/month. I may have an opportunity to fly with a 135 outfit (passengers, not cargo) and log SIC turbo-prop time. Not 100% sure of details, but let's say 400-500/year logged SIC. Take pay, benefits, relocation out of the equation, because frankly I think to each there own. Im thinking long term career, what is the better option?

So here's the question...
Keep logging PIC/Dual Given/Instrument time in small single engine till I reach 1500, or jump ship and take the SIC time in a turbo prop?

Let me know your thoughts!

You need 1500TT (single or multi) and as much multi as you can get. Is the multi SIC actual time, or is it a single-pilot aircraft? If the aircraft is a single-pilot aircraft, skip it (unless it leads to PIC time). You need PIC time in addition to the TT. Perhaps fly to 1000 PIC, then get 500 SIC multi (real SIC). Hard to say without the details.

I flew around 100 hours as SIC in a single-pilot aircraft. It was good experience and led to PIC in the aircraft. I logged the time as SIC because I had a 135 checkride with the FAA in it. I explained those hours in interviews and kept a copy of my 135 checkride form. It's not real valuable time, but it led to more valuable time.

King air/Piaggio-Go for it
Pilatus/Caravan -Be careful (think it thru)
I didnt have patience for dual given after 800 hrs.
Also think about what gets u to 1500 and ATP mins faster. The biggest prob I see with guys is XC time. Most turbine gigs will be all XC. @ 1500 u should have plenty IMC/XC/night time. Good luck

This is HUGE, and I'm surprised no one else said anything.

It's almost impossible to get 500 Cross Country instructing anywhere that isn't ATP.

Yeah, another thing to consider. Used to be you'd get all the XC you needed in right seat of an airliner...no more

I am just curious . Are you implying that the younger generation these days have "mommy and daddy paying for flight training" ? I am almost a decade younger than you are , and I had no one pick up my tab. Or was I just looking too much into that ?

You need to show up to the airliner job on day one with all that cross country. You are now required (well, soon anyway) to have your ATP before hitting the line.

Understood. I misinterpreted what was originally said to mean that you couldn't log XC as SIC PF anymore.
