Default Availability date vs. interview timing?

Is there a general time frame the majors use to schedule interviews vs. the time an applicant will be available?

I expect to be available to begin training 1 April 2014, how soon before that might I start hearing from the majors? I am assuming that the majors will be hiring and that my time/experience is sufficient to at least garner an initial phone call.

Thanks

Unknown. From UAL at least an initial call leads to an interview (if you pass the psych test). They won't call til you've been selected for an interview. That said, doubt they'll call at all until around your availability date unless perhaps you're being hired into a pool. My $.02.

I was told to start applying about a year out. I sent out apps in Aug/Sep of '12 with a Jun '13 availability. I got called/interviewed by UAL in Apr '12 and started class in Jun '13 (given choice of class dates earlier but unavailable). Every situation is different but be honest/realistic with your availability. Good luck.

I figured '13 was what you meant, where were you flying -38s from? Congratulations on getting hired, mind sharing your hours and PIC/IP time?

Holy crap. You had me scared for a minute. I finalized my application, but still have some interview prep to do.
