First Big Career Decision
#21
Have been in a smilier situation. Had the perfect, almost everyday at home job that would suit anybody who is in his 40's, has kids and likes an office day timetableish life.
I started flying part 121 at 20 years old (possible in europe), did mostly short regional routes for a well established carrier. Had a good contract, good qol, enjoyed the flying and the people… Got the chance to fly heavyjet international at 25. Now doing a two leg commutus non backupus .
My conclusion so far is that flying 4-5 legs a day, with 10 days off a month can get old as quickly as doing that dreadful through the night flight towards another continent, even though I now have 15 days off.
I wouldn't say that one is better or worse than the other, both types of flying have pros and cons, in the end it comes down to your personal attitude.
Life can be short, and I wouldn't want to miss any of the experiences I have made so far.
If you want to retire at a major in the US… then now would be a very good time to join a regional and progress towards the legacies!
Good luck,
npng

There ya go.
Flying large jets on long haul trips will get old and boring really quick. Red-eye transcons, multiple time zone changes etc.. wreak havok on your body. Also consider that cargo flying can and most likely will go "pilot-less" at some point in the future as UAS aircraft have proven themselves. Quality of life is and should be the highest priority!
