Tuxedo T-shirt, because it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party.

Seriously though, black or navy blue suit. White shirt with a solid color conservative looking tie. Black dress shoes that are clean and shined. Spend the money to make sure your suit is properly altered. If you have a suit that's more than a couple years old go out and buy a new one.

Don't get too caught up in tie color. I'd say most people wear red and some will tell you to only wear that color. I wore a blue tie and still got hired at a major airline. Like I said just make sure it's conservative looking. The people doing the hiring should be able to visualize how you'll look wearing their airline's uniform.

Everyone gets so caught up in this. The last interview I had was in dark gray dress pants, a slightly patterned shirt and a tie. It looked personal and well put together. Look like you belong there when you walk in and be knowledgeable. The whole "perfect suit" thing seems a bit silly to me.

When I got interview prep for my last interview .... I asked the same question and she said people over think this way way way too much.... Blue suite , blue tie , blue jimmy hat in the wallet etc...

She said just look good and professional , that's it.

The guy that wore a poop colored suite to UPS didn't help his cause ... Or the guy that had a full on gold suite to Delta .

Just look good and sharp with a tailored suit that fits ...

Good luck

Fine for most regionals.

For majors...dark, conservative suit (well-tailored), white shirt, red conservative tie, black wingtip shoes. No crazy accessories. This is the only right answer, and it's stupid to even discuss it further.

Seeing as the only suits I wear on a regular basis are green and have zippers all over them, I wanted to run something by you all that came up as I was suit shopping recently. I got the standard navy blue suit, white shirt, red tie, good to go there. However, when I mentioned black shoes with the blue suit I was almost laughed out of both Neiman Marcus (suit and shoe departments) and Men's Warehouse. Everyone 100% recommended brown shoes with the navy blue suit.

Is this just a case of the hiring gouge lagging current style trends by a decade? I worked for me in 1989, so you should stick with it today?

I think I've decided to go with the brown shoes, mostly because I can't imagine not being hired because I didn't wear black shoes, but I am curious to hear some different opinions.

Thanks guys (and girls).

Dark navy blue suit, white shirt, maroon or red tie, and either cap toe or wing tip shoes, highly shined. Cordovan or brown with the navy suit. Can't go wrong with this combo. Has worked for me every time. Be sure everything is cleaned and crisply pressed. Recommend going clean shaven with a fresh haircut. You have only 1 chance to make a first impression. Just my .02

I'd say wear the color shoes the pilots at the airline you're interviewing with are required to wear for their uniform. Can't go wrong with that!

(I must be out of touch, as I think brown shoes are horrid. Maybe it's a GQ thing.....)

BTW, good luck at the interview!

Echoing some other comments, just make sure it is clean, pressed, conservative, and TAILORED. Gray, black, brown, blue, whatever. Look in the mirror and if you have any doubt, change it. Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

Black shoes and belt are traditional, can't go wrong items with any dark suit, be it blue, black, or grey. They will never be out of style.

Brown shoes and belt are more faddish: they are considered "in" today, but won't always be "in."

When deciding between black and brown remember that you want to look like the interviewer might dress if he weren't in uniform. That way he will subliminally think "Yeah, he looks like one of us." So if you think your interviewers will be young, 25-30-ish guys then maybe brown is the way to go. And if you think your interviewers will be middle-aged guys, then black might be the best choice.

The belt must be the same color as the shoes; never, ever mix black and brown. And for God's sake: no white athletic socks!
