Returning to aviation
#1
After 2.5 years out of aviation, I have come to realize anything other than professional aviation just isn't for me. I got out in March of 2012 to take a job that kept me at home and paid a lot better, but ultimately over time have made the decision that I want to get back in. I wanted to reach out and get some leads about coming back somewhere. I haven't done much flying since I got out, so my recency of experience will be minimal once I get current again. I haven't kept up with what has been going on at each carrier like I used to (just been using this as a resource to try and read up). If anyone would like to throw out opinions/options that they know of, especially those near the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex that would be great.

Welcome back to aviation! In the words of Jim Carrey, "you can fail at what you don't want so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love."

Thanks guys. I just posted this a couple of days ago. I am just beginning to get the ball rolling. Working on getting current again, and doing as much research as I can on the current state of each carrier. I would love to find a local corporate or 135 job around Dallas, but most likely will end up back at a regional.
I'm hovering around 2000TT with most of it being right seat 121.

I'm in the same boat. Been out for a little over 2 years myself. I posted about this on another thread. The majority of answers I got addressed currency as the reason as to why I'm having difficulty landing a gig. That brings me to this question. I don't think getting current on a 172 at the local strip will help much as far as knocking the rust off a bigger airframe.(Last gig was PIC on a BE40) Any ideas on "get yourself current" options out there? Borrowing some cash and going to recurrent somewhere like Simuflite or Simcom is not totally out of the picture at this point. Opinions anyone?

If the goal is a regional, they should be looking for someone with a pulse.
If you have an instructor certificate, i'd polish it off and go flying.
Several months back I through in an application to Frontier for grins (currently on the outside of aviation myself). And despite my 25 hrs of 172 time in the last 6 months, I get a phone call from Republic offering me a class date...not an interview...a class date.
If you think you're going to end up back at a regional, I don't think it's going to take much experience to get you back there. If you have fractional/charter/135 experience and type ratings you might be able to nudge your way back in on that side...but they may be looking for more recency, and in many cases it's who knows you in those industries.
BTW - I'm about 2500 TT, 1900 T-121, 400 T-PIC 121.

Cool. I go tmrw for a little indoc on a Hawker 750 at a 91 operator. Never flown one, but from what I hear FMS is just like the Beechjet but does a little more Gee Whiz stuff. It's not for a job, just a friend who said he would help with maybe getting me a trip or two when his FO wants to be off. Would for sure help on the currency issue!!!
Hey, it's a ray of hope.. Don't know what it would be like at the regionals ..Gonna shoot some resumes that way for grins anyway.I'm older but have no problem maintaining the pace. I really would like to find a stable 91 operator or a good fractional/135 outfit. NOT interested in NJ though. Thanks for the encouraging words guys..
