Online schools for degree???
Hey all,
I am an aspiring pilot wanting to take my life towards the airline industry. I've done more research about flight schools and everything else involved with the subject. The only thing I haven't done is looked into online colleges. I am not able to attend a college due to a full time job and family so I figure since I have quite a bit of time to burn while I'm working on my pilot certs I might as well get that degree going but I need advice from anyone who had to go the online route as well. What can ya tell me?!?! Thanks!

Online schools for degree???
I've heard a few of my pilot friends use Utah Valley University's online program. Their pricing is mostly what attracted them. But they're pilots as well, so receiving credits for their atp's was a factor.
Don't know about any others but I'm sure most universities have online programs if you can afford it.

Def get your degree while building seniority somewhere ..... Many chose to go to school first which I completely understand , but that's nearly 4 years of seniority lost at a xyz airline that could be a captain one day or furlough avoidance etc ...
Good luck where ever you choose .

go to a school that has a existing physical campus to help minimize the diploma-mill reputation for some degrees. Almost impossible time-wise and logistics wise to do 12-15 hours a semester for online schools. Plan on 6 years to complete degree

Look into ERAU's online Bachelor's of Professional Aeronautics. You can transfer a bunch of credits for pilot's ratings and take CLEP and DANTES to cover a lot of other requirements. They ended up being cheaper a few years ago when I looked into it, because UVSU charged to transfer credits while ERAU accepted outside credits for free.

Look up Fort Hays State University. I graduated from there this past spring while flying 121 and I felt it was very flexible with my schedule. I did a lot of slam clicking but it was worth it. I was satisfied with the online format as well as the price. They have a good selection of totally online degrees as well. Good luck!

Look at one of the "big 3" online schools. Regional accreditation and they will take more than 75% of requirements in transfer from other regionally accredited colleges in good standing. Testing out through CLEP, DSST and ECE will potentially save you years of sitting in a classroom.

+1 for Utah valley. I finished my degree online while flight instructing. Super affordable and in most cases if you're married you will qualify for a grant and not have to pay a dime. My last semester cost 2,900 for 15 credit hours. So it's not too bad if you end up footing the bill yourself.

If your goal is Delta then be careful because rumor has it that the only guys getting hired right now are the ones that actually attended college. In fact they don't really seem to like UVU's program too. Now this is today and in three years, I don't think they will matter.
