Exclamation Short Haul = Home at night?

Ive heard if you're doing short haul flights you can return to your domicile most nights? Any airlines where this is true? Even legacies? I want to be around my kids as much as possible even it means less pay or flying for a regional

Thanks

I believe Hawaiian B717 schedule works that way. Of course you have to get hired there, which is not an easy thing, and I think that flying goes relatively senior also...

Fly airplanes and dont want to be away--try flight instructing or Ag. Flying equals away, there's no other way.

I'd look at the airlines operating turbo-props: Piedmont, Horizon, Commutair.

I don't know much about them, but asking guys who fly at those places would be a good place to start.

I thought most of the flying at Allegiant kept pilots home every night. I do not work there so I cant confirm that, but thats how I thought it worked.

At Penair we are home every night. The Anchorage base anyways. The schedules are pretty decent here.

Ag typically means going with the seasonal work. There are some permanent seats, mostly in rice country and other such places, but those seats require moving to remote Louisiana.

Typical ag is Kansas for three weeks or three months, North Dakota for a wheat run, perhaps Arkansas in the winter fertilizing pine plantations, etc. Unless your family is willing to go with you, then consider it temporary duty where needed and when.

Airplanes go places. Those places are often not at home.

If the goal is to be with a family, there must be some plan to support them. Regional salary may not be the way to do that.

Corporate is often better at less flying and more time at home, but corporate jobs end suddenly and leave you looking.

Ag is seasonal.

Airline flying is fine for those who like it, but regionals don't pay, and if you need to commute, goodbye to your spare time.

Every job has it's particular requirements, and going with the aircraft is one of those for pilots.

HA interisland flying has no overnights. If you live in Hawaii, (very expensive) it is the best gig around if you want to sleep in your own bed.
