Like it or not, these companies don't exist to provide you a job. They are free to shape their workforces any way they like, and showing preference to those who volunteer their time is their way of saying "we prefer people who are not just here for a paycheck."
And it would be interesting to do a "revisit" AFTER the pilots are hired to see how many are STILL volunteering, STILL paying for their OBAP, WAI, NGPA memberships, etc.....

Sorry, I know more than a few guys that simply used it as resume fodder and stopped after being hired.

I'd have to disagree that it says "a lot" about someone. It's a subjective/relative metric.

UAL's BK has said they are deemphasizing volunteer work. It CANT be verified. What? Like you have to provide contact info? Nope......

I bet most dudes bailed on "volunteering" once they got on with their major.

I'm not exactly going to the WAI in March on my time off to support Women in aviation. I'm going because it seems like I have to along with 90% of the other swinging' d---s. Just like back in the 90's I flight instructed cuz I had to. Flew boxes in the middle of the night cuz I had to get multi-time. Took the first shoddy jet job to get jet time cuz I had to. Work my butt off to get Jet PIC cuz we all had to.

Now it's a PC game. We're all equals now.

Wanna do something truly meaningful and get an honest boost to your resume' at the same time?

Check out the Veteran organizations.

Those found on the list at the end of this video are all excellent (or they wouldn't be there)...

If that's what they value in an applicant, then yes it should. You don't make the rules, they do. You talk like getting hired at a major is a right. Stop whining.

Don't disagree with that. "It is what it is/their house, their rules, a sign of the times", whatever....

Pretty much what I'm saying. It's NOT required background check or required to be verified.

You know how many guys I know that put "PTA" or say they help coach their kid's team? Yet they're NOT there for the PTA meetings and have a crappy schedule/min days off commute and MIGHT make one practice a month, etc.
