If they are counting FPT from primary then they are really stretching things. FPT in primary is the equivalent of dual received which can't be logged at PIC time. The average Helo pilot leaving for his FRS will only have about 5-6 hours FWPIC time from their solo flights in primary. Do you know what regulation Envoy is using to interpret flight time before winging as PIC time?

After talking to Envoy and my local FSDO, it seems to be sort of a grey area. Envoy has cleared using all FPT from primary through their FSDO to count towards the ATP mins.

FPT is clearly sole manipulator of the controls, but the real questions is when are you "rated" in the aircraft. As the military does not require a FAA SEL rating to fly the T-34 or T-6 (even as an instructor) when you become "rated" is not clearly defined.

The FAA has already set a president for accepting FPT from primary as loggable PIC time as you are able to get a SEL/Helicopter Commercial Certificate after you wing. Since PIC time is a requirement for this certificate, then your FPT was counted for it then.

While it isn't clear if you are rated for the aircraft during primary, you do have a clear log of sole manipulator of the controls and the FAA has already accepted it as PIC time when they issued you your commercial certificate, so FPT from primary can be logged as PIC time towards an FAA qual.

That all being said, I would still keep a separate column in your log book that shows acting PIC time (what we would have called aircraft commander time) as many airline applications want that instead of sole manipulator time.

Tester that is some great information!!! It makes since given we can get our ratings Immediately after winging which I did. I've been mistaking my PIC time for 3 years!!

I would still check with any airline I'm applying to, to see how they want me to count it. Having both columns will make providing the appropriate information easy. The last thing you want to have happen is to get into an interview and have them question your log books. I think in this case, you could defend the FPT as PIC time given that the FAA as already accepted it that way. For Primary, all my flights are now going to be logged as dual received (for the total time) and PIC for any time logged as FPT.

Or 145 KIAS 30 feet off the ground inbound to a hot LZ doing med chase. Of course there are plenty of boring days as well

I have seen quite a bit about the RtF with Envoy, but not much info other than word of mouth and this site for the other two. Do you know if either are going to publish their program or do we have to specifically contact them to get info?

I still haven't seen official word. I've heard PSA is partnering with a school in Pensacola for their rotors to regional program. Like Envoy's program it will take a while to get it up and running. Envoy's program was talked about quite a bit before they published any official announcement. If PSA or Piedmont are better fits for you as far as bases or other aspects, then I would give their recruiters a call and ask about their programs and when they might officially come online.

It's official now. There is an email going around (posted on the PSA info thread) that PSA has partnered with Skywarrior in Pensacola for their RTP program. First Class starts in mid March and you have have to apply through the PSA website.

On a side note, if anyone has applied to this and gotten an interview would they care to share how long it took to hear from them ;).
