Thanks for all of the honest replies. I know the corporate world is a big roll of the dice, just like anything else in avaition.

Just trying to compare the senior freight fellas against a good corporate job. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

Thanks again.

Hang in there, your on a rather vicious board...

If your senior, you can fly WHAT EVER YOU WANT....knowing you have 5 weeks vacation , which equates to months of vacation, and fly 14- 15 days a month...put it together how ever you want....ITS YOURS TO DESIGN...

I know a lot of 2d year FOs at UPS making 120k who are home 25 days a month or more. Of course they all live in L-ville and bid reserve and pick up open time.

So do most schedules work about 14-16 days per month? Junior all the way up through the senior guys for both companies?

From the rumor mill, that is all about to change in the coming year. Our schedules will be mirroring more what other carrier schedules look like.

DH and city purity will be going the way of the dinosaur as will the very senior lines that get 18 days off (i.e. STN and VCP)......................

16 would be a little high for us. I think we have to average 14 out of 28 off, so some are more, some are less

At fedex most do, but if your junior you might not hold a line and be on reserve (15 days out of 28 or 19 out of 35 day bid month). If you live in domicile reserve day flying can go senior if you are not being used as in the airbus or junior if the reserves are being used a lot. My average on reserve as been about 50% over 10 years, but I live in Mempho. BTW it takes 5yrs to get 3 weeks of vacation, 10yrs for 4 weeks and 20yrs for 5 weeks.

How long before one can hold a line and if on reserve can you expect to work the entire time if wanted to avoid having a crashpad or living in base?

Shegavemeclap,

I'm not sure if it's just beginner's luck, but I only have to work 16 out of 35 days for my March bid month. I also got a week of flying through my hometown, which means I get to go home a few nights that week. I am very happy with this, considering I have only been here for 6 months!

You will NEVER have to work more than 15 days in 4 week month and 19 days in 5 week month, unless you choose to waive minimum days off!
