The new build 777s actually happening?

Whats the life like at WGA, is training pay still in effect and at $3k/month? Is it true that once you get to MIA that you're essentially marooned there until done with your type? Are all your numbers really in metric? How good is the training, or is it pull yourself up by your bootstraps? What’s the requirements for a vax, covid or otherwise? I saw WGA is homebased but I keep seeing guys talk about international bases, any specific rules for designating your home airport inside CONUS? What’s the seat lock, how’s mgmt abuse on the drivers? Probably more questions too.

There is nothing to say they aren’t.

There's also not much to say they truly are beyond words on paper. Actual indicators would be if pilots are being recruited for an initial cadre and if 119 people are starting to put together the program.

Life is what you make it. I’m on vacation in July, August and September. I average about 60 block hours a month. Training pay is $100 a day plus $100 a day per diem, so $200 a day. Take in to account the advantage of no tax on the per diem and it’s worth a bit more. What do you consider marooned? If you’ve never typed in an MD-11 or 747 before, you’ll find your time best spent studying. You can drive there and have that convenience. There is a company van to get groceries, etc. All numbers are in metric, except tire pressure. Training department is excellent and willing to help you if you show the motivation. Covid vax is not required. Depending on where you go, you may need to get a yellow fever shot for some Africa destinations, but we haven’t gone there in quite awhile. Just think of homebasing as just that, homebasing. If you live in Dubai, Amsterdam, Bogota or Incheon, that can be you home base if you choose You can home base anywhere in the US. You can change your home base with company coordination, but I wouldn’t make a habit of it. Homebasing is just where the company starts your bidline. If you have Bogota as your home base, for the new future, it is unlikely that you will operate out of there . If you use Incheon, then it’s likely that you will be going straight to work. There is a 2 year seat lock. I have no problem with the current management. The overall tone of your questions is a negative impression of WGA. You should talk to current employees. If you are talking to current employees and they couldn’t answer your simple questions, I have to wonder why they are here. I am a current employee. Not many contributors on this forum are current employees.

Are you looking for a job?
Send your questions to HR. Otherwise, we are a private company and don’t broadcast unnecessary information in this cut throat environment.

Oh sorry I stumbled into a secret squirrel situation. What's the forum for again? Anyway, I always have my ear to the ground regarding new possibilities, especially with 777s which I've flown for years in various operations. All this secrecy though, oh boy, quite a bit above my pay grade probably.

Thanks for the reply Dude, a few follow ups. For training pay, is that dough for every day you're out training, every day you have a scheduled event, or at MMG of 17 days? As far as marooned, I have a buddy who went through WGA MD school within the last 6 months and he made it sound like you're spending alot of time idle in the MIA hotel with long gaps between sims without a crew badge nor CASS/jumpseat rights. I've got a few light twin Boeing types, but rumor has it that when the visibility improves in the sim, you lose another engine. I appreciate the info on homebasing. Most of my peeks into WGA are from my buddy and a MD Captain I met at a hotel bar who was on the teetering edge of insanity. I can look past my buddy who has his own limitations, but given the things I heard from this semi anonymous fellow at a bar, I wanted to check in on a few other things and make sure he's a outlier, not the norm.

Health insurance/401k contributions any good? Decent international hotels? Is peak an increased ops tempo or business as usual? My current operator is 90% domestic cargo and I'm looking into the dig bick around the world type of operations, what is it that I don't know that'll make me happy to stay where I am in CONUS instead of applying? I want to do something "real" with my career before I'm flying JFK-PHL in a Boeing regional jet.

You get training pay for everyday that you are in Miami, Estero, etc. I don’t know what the time line is now, but I started on 16 Mar and finished 29 Apr. if you experience a similar scenario, you would be paid for all 45 days. I’m not up to speed on the IOE pay rules, but can find out.
Regarding healthcare insurance, I don’t have it, but I often hear that it is inferior to Kalitta’s. When I ask for details, few can provide any, so that may just be normal complaining. The 401K is run by Fidelity. The matching is a maximum of 2.5% of your guarantee. That needs some help and it be get help soon. The company has responded with improvements due to the current pilot market. I believe the Employee Stock Ownership plan has huge potential. That’s a long conversation and many pilots here will argue against it. The bottom line is that it costs you nothing and in the first 2 years of its implementation, many FOs have over $180K in there accounts and Captains over $300k. These number represent the current valuation of the company stock. Hotels are mostly Hilton properties, except in Korea. We stay at the Oakwood in Incheon. You will spend a lot of time there. It’s nice. Peak season is different since covid. We no longer send most of the fleet to UPS or FedEx. You will probably not really notice much of a change. You’ll see INC, ANC, and all the Chinese and Vietnam Airports.
