Wow, big growth in ONT for sure.

FD, I figured MD ANC would have grown faster than SDF?

Also, why are the captain/fo ratios so different on MD in SDF versus ANC? Is this an indication the "extra" SDF FOs will be displaced to ANC soon?

Based on your projected numbers

MD11 SDF 203 185
MD11 ANC 80 140

SDF ~52% of MD drivers will be captains
ANC ~36% of MD drivers will be captains

(hope my math is correct? )

my guess would be the additional crew member needed for the international flights. that person doesn't need to be a capt. but that is just a guess.

He used to have to be a captain but we gave that up in the surrender document....I mean contract <G>. What you see is the transition in progress

I think MD pilots fly mainly international trips whether ANC or SDF based, so the captain to fo ratio should be about the same whether in ANC or SDF. But it's not - any other ideas to why the huge CA to FO ratio difference?

Because we staff our long-haul legs with 2 F/Os, 1 Captain.

I know that all of the 75 whale SOs will be "demoted to F/E captains...replaced by young, inexperienced pilots", in the words of Capt name withheld. For me and the other 16 DC-8 SOs who are not demoted captains, do you think there is a chance we will be promoted to FO by the end of 2007 or is that 166 number including us too?

N570UP - I am aware of that, but I don’t think you understood my initial question. Basically, I was wondering why there is such a huge CA to FO ratio difference between ANC and SDF domiciles even though both domiciles basically fly international trips?

"Based on your projected numbers

Based on projected numbers 52 % of MD pilots in SDF will be captains as opposed to only 36% captains in the ANC domicile (MD11 as well) In other words why so many captains in SDF when compared to ANC? Hope my question makes more sense now…

Because we are transitioning from a system where captains were IRO's and ANC is a newer domicile which had fewer captain IRO's to start with

I guess I didn't.
