Are the schedules always 17-18 on followed by 13 off?? Or are there sometimes split schedules where you work 8-9 days followed by 6-7 off??
You do get an occasional layover that is a couple of days, but they are mostly due to disruptions (AOG, Weather, permits missing) and we take advantage whenever they rarely appear. We went for an evening sail in Dubai that was lots of fun. But expect most of the time a 10, 16 or 24 hour followed by another heavy crew trek around the globe.

Coffee, flaps 10/20, flaps 30, sleep, repeat.

Our duties and days off are all in a row. You DO NOT want to split your days off. We DH a lot, and we DH long distances most of the time so you don't want to add more to it.

Default Cat ii/iii?

Doesn't National 747s have cat 2/3 autoland??
I saw one on flightaware the other day diverting, instead of going into ANC they went to FAI.. I know Wx has been really bad lately; I think the metar showed about 1/4 mile vis...
but ANC has cat2/3 approaches and surely National 747s have the ability... what would be the reason for diverting instead of pressing on with the autoland??

There was no parking in ANC, it was NOTAMd closed for a few days for widebody aircraft.

National doesn't have Catt II or III authorization. The previous poster was right too. Sometimes parking is limited.

Thanks for the info!! I had no idea the mighty 747 (at least theirs) couldn't do autoland!!
If parking was limited I wonder why they headed for ANC then diverted to FAI. Oh well - I appreciate the info.

Seems they're still seeking direct-entry captains.. are FOs not wanting to upgrade or leaving for other pastures?

The airplanes can autoland. National just does not have Cat2/3 certification. But Cat 1 autolands are possible.

The direct entry captain thing should be going away soon. The large contingent of Aussies, many who came over with tons of Boeing widebody and long haul PIC time, are now starting to reach their 1,000 hours of FAR 121 time and will be hitting the upgrade training over the next several months.

I was one of the flights that ended up going to FAI. On that particular day, it wasn't as much weather (only) but rather a total mess on the ground courtesy of an Asian carrier that will remain nameless for now that was instructed to shutdown on a taxyway to wait for their turn for a parking spot, just to say later when they were instructed to taxi, that they couldn't start their engines because their company procedure is to have ground crew present. That created a ripple effect that lasted for the rest of the day into the next morning. It took us 5 hours the next day just to De-Ice in FAI. It was a mess that had nothing to do with the autoland capabilities of the 74 (No CAT II/III for us, not worth it for our operation) A good friend of mine that is a captain at Atlas, still has the Pink Floyd song "Money" ringing in his head after he landed.

As stated before. Not only the experienced Aussi pilots but every F/O in the company is scheduled to be evaluated for command. So I also suspect the DEC offer will probably go away for now. At least on the 74. But the hiring will continue as another 74 was purchased and they are looking into more aircraft

Good morning. Any idea if they hire ICAO ATPL with airliner type rate on it? Actually I am a Captain 7000+ on B737 and almost 4000 PIC B737. Worth having FAA ATPL w/type rate? Frozen ATPL is valid? Any clues about hiring process? Email, website, third party? Having right to work AKA citizenship a must?

Regards,

Regards,
FAA ATP and FAA class 1 are a must. There is no thing as frozen ATP, I believe that is EASA term. Check their website, they got the requirements there.
